(Spam gone, still see the 'lionhorest' account, with links.)

edit: maybe you want to keep it as a trained pet spammer, and just divert all it's postings to /dev/null?

Was it a platform jumping game like Prince of Persia or top-down like strategy games or 3/4 view like Crusader series (also a red guy, but not a knight) or viewed from the side like Sierra adventures or FPS or over the shoulder view style? btw: here is a knight game, with a red protagonist, action a...

No, not seen it. Why was it called Managua? Some setting/background image of the city?
Is it similar to the Windows Minesweeper game?

Using my secret Google powers :-) There are downloads of it in various places, and seeing it is a shareware game, I think it's allowed. Both links have reviews, one review is from the now dead HOTUD site. (Mods may wipe links if it points to inappropriate sites.) http://www.myabandonware.com/game/de...

How about this one then: "Defender of Boston: The Rock Island Mystery" The image has a radar display as you describes, and one of the screenshots show a dog attacking, and the battle is real time. It is also a shareware game. http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/defender-of-boston-the-rock-island-mystery

So other than the radar, the rest of the screen was a static image, or mix of images? Did it display the enemy type so you know what the red dots were, or was there a text sequence describing the battle? e.g. "you kick dog for 1 damage, dog bites you for 2 damage." Did you have a separate dress-up s...

This sounds like something that was recently asked and got answered with 'The Darkest Night', a horror themed adventure? (The main character was called 'Rolanfox') http://www.dosgames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13107&highlight=darkest+night I located this game online, and indeed the introduction desc...

There is a few adult-themed games in this list, unsure if any match your description: http://www.mobygames.com/browse/games/adult/dos/ edit: I think I found it, it's a game called "Lady Love" or "Ladylove", it's not listed on the Mobygames site, but in other locations. I include a partial review fro...

Amok? The RADAR/HUD seems to match, albeit in another location.
The protagonist is in a mecha-style warmachine.

Otherwise such HUD:s are often seen in space- or flight simulators, and in some FPS:es.(e.g. Joint Operations)

'Galivian: Cosmic Police' - A space police hunting baddies with a robot dragon boss in caves.

Possibly only an arcade game, but nevertheless a guess.

Another retro shop, I may have mixed up the other shop with this one, but both have nice stuff, like flight simulator addons.
(What I haven't found much of in these shops is Atari ST games.)

It had a used Arcanum game available:

Hmm...ok, maybe a Roguelike in a more modern form? Random maps every play? Permadeath, no saves? Real-time battles is not normally a feature in those games, there are some that do have them. (e.g. Telengard, Zoarre, Valhalla/Ragnarök) The setting of theses are usually ancient dungeons, though some h...

I sometimes visit a physical retro-store, when I'm in town.
And I see it has a new boxed version of Arcanum available.

(The very cheapest used games can lack box or manual, so it's better to look at such items in person.)

1st person/Sideways/Top-down view?
Turned-based/Real-time combat?
Single character or party/squad?
Action/Strategy/RPG type?

Is there any other game you know of that looks a bit like what you are after?
