Cats. They are cleaner and less noisy (most of the time, except during mating season). Since ours is neutered, it's even cleaner and never noisy.

I think that on a 486, the CPU will bottleneck more than the video card.

I think SBLive! allows you to load SF2 files via it's AudioHQ. I don't remember exactly how it's done. Might try it later on my older desktop that has SBLive!.

Like I said, it's not something you have to do. Just select the default card for each Windows.

The thing is that while the first three Heroes games built features incrementally on top of each other, the fourth game changed so much that it was an entirely different game. And so many fans of the series didn't like it. I understand that the fifth game is supposed to be more like the first three.

They can be easily extracted from the DUKE3D.GRP file...

However, the Duke Nukem 3D Total Meltdown (Playstation) soundtrack is _THE BEST_.

Command.com isn't DOS. It's just the command interpreter. It's possible to use an alternate command interpreter (like 4DOS or NDOS). Windows 98 _IS_ a DOS based system. It runs over a pure DOS core (unlike NT-based systems) and maintains a lot of backwards compatibility even in it's graphical 32-bit...

If I'm not mistaken the only thing that's really needed to get sound of a Creative Soundblaster in pure DOS environment is CTCM.EXE.

This funny glitch is present in 1.3D and fixed later (in 1.4 or 1.5).

Still, the physics in Duke3D (or any other Build engine game) was far from realistic (e.g., you can run and jump higher than your own height). That is what made it fun.

I ripped music successfully from many games using Nero Wave Editor and the "What U Hear" recording option. Like Swiftman said, something needs to be done about the background sounds to get clean music, but in most games you can turn off the sound effects and keep the music on.
