Because this forum is based around 486 PCs that ran DOS? Just a note. Fair enough reason, for those that still have 486s that work after all these years. :) DSL Linux seems light enough to run on a 486 (if it has a CD-ROM drive). KDE is too big ...

Yeah, it's when you click MS-DOS Prompt and go into fullscreen. Then you need to type EXIT and press enter, or you could just press ALT-ENTER to get out of fullscreen, then click the X to close the window, and click Yes to the thing that says something like "Windows can't quit the program autom...

Spam is extremely salty. And it has all that jelly stuff around it for a preservative or something.

If you don't mind lots of salt or having to get rid of that gel, enjoy! :D

Something keeps bothering me here, when you used MSDOS mode restart, didn't you have to input EXIT at the dos prompt to return to win95 so you could shut properly down ? Now, yeah , it's a long time I don't use that 95sucker anymore. Just was wondering about it. No you don't need to. Just turn off ...

Remember the Barenaked Ladies "If I had a million dollars" song?

BASIC! (in its various manifestations: GWBASIC, QuickBASIC, BASICA, Visual BASIC, Atari/C64 BASIC, etc.) Reason: because it's what I learned when I was a little kid, and I grew up with it, and thus it is my personal programming language. Started with ADAM SmartBASIC, moved on to GWBASIC/BASICA, then...

Just like the authors of best-selling novels often don't have a clue how to program a game, game programmers are not necessarily very good storytellers either.

The few games that do tell a great story are extremely special in that regard.

I wonder how many people make a subconscious judgement about a member based on his post count? For some people (including me to a small extent), it's an instinct to have a higher opinion of someone who has a high post count over someone who has one much lower. Opinions are taken more seriously, resp...

You managed to get over 500 posts in only about 4 months. I'll congratulate you there. It took emmzee, the owner of this forum/website, a lot longer than that. And since we can't see you, you're pretty much equal to the rest of us in that regard. It would make no difference even if you lo...

Even so, doing something like that probably wouldn't have much merit: If emmzee decided to give somebody 25,000,000 posts, it's obvious that it would be fake, and there would be no reason to be happy about such a high number. If emmzee decided to give somebody, say, 320 posts, he'd know it's fake ev...

Pirate metal, eh? Sure isn't that the same as downloading AC/DC and Motorhead?

I guess it's easier to just let it be, the post count number can make no distinction between quality posts and piles of crap unless we're willing to bore ourselves by analyzing loads of posts.

Linus Torvalds recommends KDE, therefore KDE is pretty much the official GUI of Linux/X-Windows, and the poor 486 will have a hard time running it, if it even runs it at all. Pentium III or better with 256 MB RAM strongly recommended for KDE use. The 486 may be able to run a lighter GUI, but don't f...
