And since you say your site is worth $0, if I pay you $1, would you be interested? That ship has sailed. Now that I know what my site is worth, I'm holding out for some real money! I could buy a PS3 for that kind of money! Too bad I mostly play DOS games. I suppose I could buy 100 copies of Hocus P...

That's an interesting tool. It certainly overvalues my website. I don't sell anything, and I don't have any ads, so site revenue is $0. In theory, anyone who offers me more than $0 is a sucker.

Pharaoh's Tomb level contest

Hi folks. I've recently learned about a level editor for the classic Apogee game, Pharaoh's Tomb, and I've started a custom level contest. If anyone is interested, I'd like to invite everyone to participate. Contest rules can be found here . There is a prize, but mostly I'm just hoping that some gre...

Windows 95 and 98 have a version of DOS in them. Most games should work from the MS-DOS Prompt in the Start Menu. There are a small number of games, notably the Lemmings games from Psygnosis, that won't work in any version of Windows, including the DOS prompt in Windows 3.1. For those games, you cou...

That's called a text adventure. There were over a thousand text adventures, so you'll have to be a lot more specific. Popular text adventures were the Zork series and Colossal Cave, aka Adventure.

It was either Kroz or ZZT. In Kroz you play a smiley face and you attack letters of the alphabet with whips. ASCII graphics were all the rage at the time.

***SPOILER WARNING*** Yeah, it's a bit weird to have a spoiler warning on a forum post, but I wanted to give the whole story about the Alien Carnage/Halloween Harry liberation effort, which will spoil some of the surprise if you haven't read the John Passfield interview yet. I emailed John Passfield...

Alien Carnage/Halloween Harry not dead yet

I'm a fan of Halloween Harry which, sadly, was discontinued several years ago. I contacted John Passfield to see if he would be interested in releasing the game as freeware. He initially told me that he was very interested in doing that. A month later he gave me a surprise answer, which I didn't fee...

Well folks, here comes the exciting part. The petition now has well over 100 signatures, so I've presented it to my contact at Activision. There is still time to sign if anyone else wants to add weight to it, but I want to thank everyone who contributed to the success of this initiative. Now might a...

Software authors are under no obligation to release their software as freeware or release it to the public domain. A clever software company rewards its fans and gets free PR and loyalty by releasing games as freeware when they are no longer profitable, which never occurs with the most popular games...

The Zork petition now has over 50 signatures. I want to thank those of you who signed it, and ask you to continue to encourage others to sign it. The pace seems to have picked up recently. I will present the petition to my contact in Activision's legal department when support seems to have reached a...

I concede that it's unlikely, but I thought there was enough hope to at least try. I hope everyone who cares will at least stand up and put their name behind it. I forgot to mention this, but C|Net was not contacted by Activision to remove the Zork link, either. I informed them that the games weren'...

Re: Activision are jerks: Zork games removed from DOSGames.c

I'm the webmaster that contacted emmzee and CNET, and created the petition. I see you have a link to the email correspondence that I posted on Liberated Games. I just want to clarify the Activision situation, for the record. As per the bottom of <a href="http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-6464_7-6300...
