As far as I know:

Windows 95, Windows 95 A = MS-DOS 7.00
Windows 95 B, Windows 95 C, Windows 98, Windows 98 SE = MS-DOS 7.10
Windows ME = MS-DOS 8.00

NT is more solid and reliable, and for some things it might even be faster and stronger. But it is a mighty gamble, and depending on what software/hardware you're running, the switch to NT 4 might be worse than keeping your 95 system.

OK guys. Macintoshes tend to be more reliable while Windows tends to be more flexible. Just like an elastic band is more likely to break than a tight rope. If you want a system that almost never crashes, get a Mac. If you want a system that offers more freedom and versatility, get Windows. Or better...

Naw, what that means is if VPC 2004 screws up on XP Home, Microsoft can then point at you and say "Ha Ha I told ya so!". It is possible for it to work on XP Home though. Nonetheless VPC is a fair bit difficult to set up. You need your own OS (like FreeDOS, http://www.freedos.org ) since se...

Extreme Pinball is a 32-bit game, and therefore Windows XP and DOSBox will have a much tougher time with it. The chances of getting it to work right in XP/DOSBox are about 1 out of 500. Your only hope may be to run the game in Windows 95/98/ME, from pure DOS, or from an environment like Virtual PC t...

I had problems with other Apogee/3-D Realms games installers. I think your computer might be too fast, a lot faster than the computers that existed when the game was brand-new. If you can, try installing the game on a slower computer, then take the game's folder where the installer installed the gam...

Okay, I did some work over the wkend on a potential redesign ... heres the example I came up with: http://www.dosgames.com/2005/ Nothing super drastic, tried to keep the general feel of the site the same. Comments welcome, as are bug reports on whatever weird browsers y'all are using. It works fine...

It's awful hard when all guests share the same "account".

The only way to ban them would be an IP address ban, and even that is precarious.

You may need a slower computer. See if you can get access to a slow, older computer to run the game on.

Windows 2000 and Windows XP use almost identical kernels, and therefore about 99.9% of the time whatever works in 2000 will work in XP, and whatever doesn't work in 2000 also will not work in XP. It looks to me like the game is trying to get direct access to RAM. Windows 95, 98, and ME were tolerant...

Guys, do we need to be so mean and insulting? Come on now, let's be a bit nicer. This shouldn't need to be.

Shadow1: It's best if you explain yourself a bit clearer from now on. We can't read your mind, and therefore we need more info on what you're trying to say.

Locked.

All I can imagine is pyramids, camels, and deserts. I'm so ignorant, dang... For many years, Africa has been portrayed as a bum/beggar continent. Has the media deceived me? Live Aid 1985, World Vision, UNICEF, CCF, PWRDF, Gates Foundation, the list goes on... By those tokens, Africa would be a black...

Newfoundland, even today, has an old-fashioned feel to it in comparison to other parts of Canada (even though we have the modern stuff like Wal-Mart/computers/TVs/phones/etc.) so you can imagine what we were like in the 1940s/1950s/1960s, when those men/women were in their youth.
