Overclocking

Hello: I'm new to overclocking but want to experiment, so I recently bought a 486 mobo with an AMD 5x86-133 cpu. This particular board has ISA/PCI/VLB combo, and I've heard that there can be big problems with the combo boards, especially at higher speeds. So, I'm wondering if there's a limit to how ...

Oooh. AFAIK, AMD is the only computer chip company that made a 40 MHz 386, so I'm guessing that AMD would be the only supplier of 40 MHz FPUs. However, there are DOS programs that can emulate the 80x87. Yes, but there are multiple third-party FPU's (IIT, Cyrix, ect.) I was wondering which one would...

Best FPU for 386 Machine

Hi:

I'm building a 386 system from parts. The CPU is a AMD 386DX-40, so I need a 387DX-40 coprocessor. What is the best/fastest FPU? I've heard Cyrix FasMath is pretty good, but they seem to be hard to come by.

Thanks!

486SX

I think the 486SX without the FPU were the tiny ones that were soldered on to the motherboard and the 486SX with the dead FPU was the big loose ZIF one that were the same size as 486DX chips of the same clock speed. Am I right? Yes, that's correct. I have an old Tandy Desktop with a 486SX on-board ...

You can check to see if your Pentium has the FDIV bug by entering the following formula in the Windows calculator: (4195835 / 3145727) * 3145727 - 4195835 If your CPU is ok, it will return 0. I'm not sure that's always true. I may be mistaken, but I believe certain versions of Windows have been pat...

Two Performance Q's

I recently acquired two mobos: the first is a late-gen 486 model w/VLB and the second is an older ISA mobo with an on-board AMD 386DX/40 chip. I'm trying to build these into two working computers, and I'm thinking about putting an Intel 486DX4-100 cpu in the 486. My 1st question is: how is performan...

SB Vibra

I, too, have a Sound Blaster Vibra! ISA (16-bit), and I'm running XP Home (SP1a) with no problems. Perhaps you should do a clean install of XP. Drivers settings can get corrupted over all those upgrades. Hope you get your card working!
