I've been reading through The Art of Atari book, and it's very cool. Both the art and the articles are lots of fun.

Cool stuff! I loved the old art - what great games would old covers inspire for modern games! - and it's fascinating to read about behind the scenes and their theory. Apparently they had the first in-house art department (in the industry?) instead of contracting the art out.

I have this book and it's great. It's a bit light on arcade material, the vast majority is on the 2600. What I really like are the little snippets that tell the story behind the paintings on the cartridge box covers. For example, I always assumed the inspiration for Othello was the Bee Gees, but it's actually one of the artists at Atari.
