Super DOS
Have you got a Super DOS? Have you considered using or building a DOS beyond MS-DOS 6.22?
I suggest any DOS is Super DOS:
If it's capible of 32-bit work and/or
Uses 32-bit disk partitions and/or
Was built by replacing older versions of the OS with newer ones like those buried inside Windows (called MS- DOS 7 by some) or
You are using DR/PC DOS 7 or better.
Give your results!! How well is it working? What doesn't work?

Its like windows. Instead of having one cd, they heve 2. OS and Upgrade Edition. It gay, it doesnt make sense.
You need to get the upgrade disks. The cant get OS 6.22, it is only an updarte editon. i reccommend downloading it off the web somewhere. i wont put a link cuz itll be gone in like 2 seconds.

I've come acrossed a new ver of DOS called FreeDOS. Supposedly not x-DR/PC-DOS code. See freedos.org and see what you think.

Be more specific....
Hi, first, what DOS are you starting with? What version do you wish to get to? If you want to get from say MS-DOS 5 to 6.22 it's just a matter of getting the disks.Bobo wrote:How do you go about updating?
If you want a SuperDOS (maybe a term like SrDOS or "Zardoz" might be a good nom d'plume

After making a change it's experimentation time. Does everything work as it did? Better/ same/ worse/ crash? Run "mem /c/p" before and after the change. Are all programs still loading properly? Do you have to use a "memmaker" session to load it right again?
See how complicated it gets? I've tried this a few times

Hi johpower,
I'm intrigued by "newer" versions of DOS but I always end up asking myself why I mainly use DOS in the first place. And the answer is to run old PC games. To get maximum compatibility with those games it is necessary to try to replicate the environment they were written for (and in) as closely as possible. For these purposes Microsoft's DOS versions will always be superior.
Additionally I use Arachne sometimes. Once again MS-DOS 6.22 is a safe choice since the code is extensively tested with it.
I mean I like newer operating systems and the features they gift us. I have Windows XP installed on this multi-boot box. But I never use it since, for the games I play, Windows 98 is a better platform. And I suspect if I installed a newer DOS too, I would end up just using MS-DOS 6.22 for similar reasons.
Best wishes to a fellow DOS user.
