Real punk died in 1980, she's about as punk as Blink-182.

Bah, I don't understand all this "real punk" crap. In my opinion, The Ramones, The Clash, NoFX, and Sum 41 all sound very similar. The only thing that changed is the subject.

I like Blink 182, but, yeah, they're more pop than punk.

It's not about the sound, which is amaturish and unimportant .
Real punk was about fighting government opression in England during the 70s (and very early 80s), not about how they met their girlfriend and ran around doing wacky things.

There are different versions of punk every 10 or so years just like pop evolves every decade. Most of the young singers today were not alive when the real punk was around.

I suppose you could call it "Punk" but I'll agree with Dopefish here: most real punk died out in the early 80s. See some of Drop Kick Murphy's early songs for some of the "punk" music I like, though don't get their newer stuff-it's trash.

I would consider Blink 182 to be Indy Pop and Avril to be Alt, but I don't consider either of them to be punk, even if their style is like it. They very seldomly talk about real race/ethnic or political opression (like DKMs pro-Irish stance) or sacrifice in their songs, just dating and domestic issues. (Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that's *bad*, just not punk)

So, that means any American bands who were singing mid-eighties and later can not possibly be punk? What if they were speaking against government oppression - just that of America? Or social issues?

And I totally agree that Avril and Blink are not punk, though I do enjoy some of their songs. This argument is mostly centered around Sum 41 (granted, they're lyrics aren't as detailed as most punk bands; present day), The Offspring (mid to late 80's), and NoFX (started a new album in January, last I heard), whose subject matter and music is very similar to that of the "real" 70's punk. Of course, their lyrical (is that a word?) approaches are different, but that's probably due to social and political changes through the decades.

I haven't heard her but I'll give it shot. I buy CD's at auction all the time for pennies on the $$$ so I'll keep an eye out. 50 used unknown CD's to audition await right now and maybe she's in there.... :wow:

Don't worry too much, cause TD he's jealous and frustrated. You've got this gorgeous avatar and he's a dog-toad (related - badly - to the dog-cow) and he knows he'll never get that kiss....

I think britney spears and christina agulera both suck and are just a bunch of hot air from 50 year old marketers. They have the songs written and all they do is sing them while wearing next to nothing and doing the bump and grind. I think any minute now you will see britney in skank ho monthly the way she is going.

At least madonna had some great songs over a decade (think she did write them too). And mariah carrey can hit a high note once and a while.

J LO is total garbage also, cant wait to see her VH1 where is the trash now special in a few years.

1. Sadly, very, very few people write their songs anymore. I wouldn't point the finger solely at those two.

2. I remember hearing on CNN that Britney already has appeared in a few pornos.

Is that a real show? What day does it air, and at what time?

The VH1 "where are they now" was/is a real show showing mostly 80's rockers and what they are doing now, kind of funny and sad at the same time. One guy from poison I think was putting up billboard adds for a living. Its pretty much a show showing how the might had fallen.

Ya, but she was wearing something on top.....The "Me against the Music" one...she's wearing a corset.....CORSET, and she says she's a role model for KIDS! :karate:

Corsets were a disaster for women's health. OZ- you're in the UK, dija see the "1900 House" special? In the program the docs tested the women after a month and found corsets reduced the ladies breathing cap by 40-50% and long term pushed the bones and organs into strange places somewhat permanently... the internal organs that is...

Strange to think that Brittany is at the fore-front of fashion.... in 1900 bawdy houses. (kinda appropriate...)
