I believe it would be called a platform game. You controlled a man wearing a blue shirt and would have to go through the level collecting gold coins while avoiding red hooded looking figures. If they caught you they would do something that looked like eating the blue man. I believe it also can be played with 2 players with the 2nd being in a silver looking shirt.
It came on the very first desktop, a Compaq, I got when I was about 4 or 5 in 95 or 96. I have been looking for this game for almost 6 years & have posted in numerous forums & nobody knows the answer.

Sounds like "Lode Runner: The Legend Returns". In this
picture, you can see the 2 players with Silver and Blue shirts respectively and the enemies in red hoods and the gold for collecting.
