I would recommend the older Toshiba Tecra laptops if you can find them in good shape. The 400 to 700 series.

The 8100 Tecra is also a good idea, it is quite the tough laptop too.

Maybe the CPU cooler is still all mucked up with the beer remains? This might cause it to spin slower than needed and the CPU might switch to a lower clock speed to avoid overheating.

Well, another possible match is Machines. Though the units were all robots of many types, you could mix and match parts and you could take control of them directly.
