Hi,

I'm trying to run Larry 6 on my DOS 6.20 computer. I know I could just use DOSbox or SCUMMVM, however I really insist on running the game on actual hardware -- a lot of it has to do with pure n ...

I actually find that the sound quality is worse on every single game I've tested so far with the SB32, I guess I need a real AWE32. :-)

Edit: Actually only games that do not support "AWE" ...

I know about these size barriers, but wouldn't they all merely affect the HDD such that the OS can only see up to [insert arbitrary size barrier here]?

In my case I'm not limited to 32 GB on my 80 ...

I just tried a 13 GB and a 30 GB HDD, they both worked fine, so apparently the limit must be somewhere >= 30 and <= 80.

This is obviously not the first time I have run into a size barrier, b ...

I have a new problem,
I want to replace the two 1 GB HDDs in my dedicated DOS/Win3.11 computer with something larger as they are actually almost full now.

Short version:

PostForum: Hardware   Posted: Thu Jun 24, 2010 10:02 pm   Subject: PC speaker mod
I have some issues with too low PC speaker sound in some games that only support the PC speaker; due to this I've decided to modify the PC-speaker in my dedicated P1 DOS/Win3.11 machine.

I have bou ...

What exact type of SB32 are you asking about?
(there are several types, ISA-PCI-etcetera....)

Otherwise, you always could ask@

Forgive me, I obviously should have written that in my initial po ...

I have a working P1 233 MHz running DOS 6.2 and Windows 3.11, I'd like to change the SB16 card in it with a SB32 as I've always wanted to hear what the difference is in games.

I have a couple quest ...

As you probably know it's almost impossible to tell what's wrong (if is) on your dos PC, not being behind the keyb to try things out.

Don't you have some config/setup/test utilities regarding your ...

I always get the same, deranged sounds, as if every tone is inverted or something that I cannot determine.

I see, so you're suggesting that if the program is installed on hardware using e.g. IRQ 5 then it wouldn't work on hardware using IRQ 7 -- although that has to be a bug, since these parameters can be ...

Are you suggesting it is a known issue that Fate of Atlantis fails to work with certain IRQs for the Sound Blaster 16?
Nope, reread my post, it works fine on both, SB-IRQ5 nd SB-IRQ7, when the ga ...

IRQ is by default set on 7 in dosbox.
Real dos PCs usually have it set to 5.
That's why I asked to test it in dosbox.
So apparently it is a IRQ problem.

BTW, I have the original CD of Fate and t ...

Could you by any chance test that 'talky image' in dosbox on a modern PC?

I've tested it now, the music works.

However, I might have a dosbox-specific problem as well,

DOSBox version 0.73

If you get the game running it won't be a memory issue.
More a IRQ-DMA setting or so ....

If you want some advise:
Get the CD version, full talky, it's not tht hard to find a valid CD image .... ...
