I made a post on Vogons. I was immediately met with the reply 'Use DOSBox'. Not really the reply I wanted.

As I'm sure you've guessed by now, I dont want to use emulators, I prefer using the real thing.

Well, I'm stumped. I have doubts as to whether there is a problem with the sound card itself as sound and music work perfectly in other games. It's just so weird how music can work fine (even though it appears to be set up incorrectly saying 'Music to port: None'), and sound effects do not work. May...

Hey again,
I tried some different BIOS settings - didn't make a difference. Still music but no sound. Perhaps I should try a different (older) sound card.

I know that this PC originally shipped with Windows 95, and so maybe this card has some problems with DOS?

I'll try fiddle around with the BIOS when I get home, at college right now.

DOSBox may be easy, but surely using good solid hardware is far more satisfying for you. :)

Just thought it was worth mentioning I just installed Warcraft (the original built for DOS), I selected SoundBlaster 16 for both the 'Digitized sound card' and 'Music sound card' with the usual IRQ, DMA and port 220 values, and both music and sound are working perfectly in the game.

So, PnP doesn't exist in DOS, but I got the SB16 drivers and installed. The autoexec.bat and config.sys files are all set up with the soundcard settings.

How come it still doesnt work?

I will try Duke3D in a moment. I found this piece of software on Creatives Tech Support site: 'Creative PnP Configuration Manager (Rev4)' 'This is the Creative Configuration Manager for use with DOS 6.x and Windows 3.1x systems. This file is only applicable to those users who own PnP ISA (Plug and P...

In response to Adam26, yes I do have CTCM in autoexec.bat. In response to dosraider, I have a Creative Labs CT2960, I know this because the model number is printed on the card itself. According to several sources, including Creative's support site, the CT2960 is a 'SB16 Value PnP OEM'. And it's an I...

Yep, I've tried all the options it gives. The sound card is PnP, yes.

I've tried absolutely everything. I've been working on it since 2pm, its now 6:30pm, plus I was working on it all yesterday evening. I think Ill give up soon. I've tried the settings you used on yours, I had the same result: Music but no sound effects. I've trawled through the BIOS and there's no on...

I have an ISA Creative CT2960 Vibra, which I believe is part of the SoundBlaster 16 family. My hardware settings for the soundcard are: A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 T6 When I setup Theme Park I choose: 'Sound FX: Soundblaster 16' 'Music: Soundblaster 16' 'IRQ: 5' 'DMA: 1' The setup screen then says: 'Sound to...

Update: I've introduced a clean install to a freshly formatted partition and installed MS-DOS 6.22. It works great, I've set up the CD-ROM drivers and mouse drivers and installed Theme Park and as far as I can tell, the mouse issue has gone. Oh, and on another note, I didn't even need Slo'Mo, its ru...

Thanks for the help. I'll try out some of this stuff tomorrow.
I see what you're saying about Theme Park being built purely for MS-DOS.

Hopefully I'll finally be able to play that game properly for the first time in 16 years.

Thanks once again!

Okay. We've gone slightly off topic, so back to the original subject:

Why would the mouse freeze up in Theme Park?

Thanks for the links dosraider. Do you hate graphical user interfaces? I thought when GUI's came along everybody was glad to see the back of DOS prompts. :) Would you agree that if I downgraded my Pentium to a 90Mhz (and gave it the correct bus speed and voltages on the motherboard), then installed ...

I know.
But if I remove W95 and install DOS 6.22 (with Slo'Mo) for example, will all my DOS games run perfectly?

Will my CD drive even work in DOS or do I need to install a specific driver for it?

I run the game in W95. I run other DOS games in W95 though like Theme Hospital and they play perfectly.

I just want to sort out the mouse problem. I'm gonna try and install DOS 6.22 and use Slo'Mo though to see if that helps. I know that Theme Park was intended for use on MS-DOS, not on Windows 95. Windows 95 has a version of DOS running in the background am I correct? As all the O/S's up until the NT...

dosraider wrote:Why not install MsDos 6 and use a CPU slowdowner as Mo'Slo?
I've thought about that but I can't find MS-DOS 6 anywhere. Do I need to buy it or is it downloadable?

Wouldn't it make more sense to run Mo'Slo in Windows 95?

Would downgrading the processor to a 90Mhz help anyway?
