I'm also a lucky owner of the DB50XG. Soundblaster 16 + DB50XG board = perfect. Together with the SuperWave32 probably the best midi you can get. Damn, Doom sounds soooo good with that card. Well, for me gameplay comes first, but graphics pretty important too, just like sound / music. For me DOS gaming is nostalgic too :-)

The memory is defenitly a problem 256 is low (with IM, Virus scanners and that kind of stuff in the background)

Looks good! Everything should go fine if you add 256 mb RAM, don't go with less then 512 MB. Don't go higher as 800x600 in Doom 3 and maybe tweak Half Life 2 / World of Warcraft a bit so you can run em on 1024x768 while keeping the FPS > 30 to 40. And don't turn on FSAA, it's a FPS killer on a 9600.

Although i can't remember a single 286 that didn't support 3,5" HD (my old 8088 had a 3,5" HD) i'm sure DD / HD 5,25" were supported. All this talk about 5,25", i'm considering building my own 5,25" drive back in my dos box :D Ps. Had niet verwacht hier ooit zuiderburen tege...

As far as i know it should be possible. Even my XT (8088 10 mhz) had a 3,5" as second diskdrive. Don't forget that at the time even on 286 5,25" wasn't that strange.

Go for the Intel DX2. It's a better system for most of the old DOS gaming.

Yeah, very happy with it, it doesn't support 320x200 though and my S3 doesn't have a DVI connector, so that's why i keep the Iiyama. And DOS games should be played on CRT, they look all blurry on tft hehe

As far as i know only the 386 SX has the feature to add a FPU, the 486 SX has a disabled integrated FPU.

The machine i build for dos games is a Pentium 200 MMX (slow enough to scale down and fast enough to play later DOS games) with a S3 Vision 864 card (2 mb) and a old SoundBlaster 16 with a Yamaha DB50-XG daughterbord for the wavetable connector (that's a must have with games with good midi music).

For video in my dos box i got a Miro 20SD (a graphic card based on S3 Vision 864) with 2 mb ram. This is a good card and i haven't found a single game that doesn't support it (Including 7th guest).
