Hello everyone!

I recently downloaded Starcon 3. I'm using windows XP and I did everything your guide (how to get dos games to work on windows xp) said to do. The game still runs REALY REALY slow. and so I can't play it. If I use sounds I can hear them (goood) yet the game runs realy realy slow. If I don't use sound (boooo!) then the games runs a bit faster then with sound yet it is still unplayable.

Help anyone?

Well, if you're using DOSBox, you might want to fiddle with the number of cycles(F11 and F12), since that might be the bugger.

If you're not using DOSBox, then get it and use it! Sarcastic

I don't know this DOSbox thing.

Can you give me a link of where to get it? And a guide or some pointers on how to use it will be great aswell.

Thanks!

I'm sorry for the double post...

Amm I used DOSbox and it works. 1 problem. When I run the game with sound option enabled it doesn't let me run it. Without sound it works perfect. another thing is that it doesnt run full screen.

this is the error i get:

Unable to open the voice file on the CD-ROM. Verify that the CD-ROM is in the drive (shint side down). You might also check the V0CDATA path in the LEGEN.INI file.

amm the disc is in the drive ofcourse. and as I said. when I run the game without sound options enabled. it works.

solutions?

thanks again!

Oh, well that's easy then, when in DOSBox, write

mount d <your CD-ROM drive's letter>:\ -t cdrom

because otherwise DOSBox will not see the CD-ROM drive as eh... a CD-ROM drive(in case you did mount it), or it might not see it at all(in case you didn't mount it)

As for the full screen issue, just hit alt+enter to switch to the default F.S. resolution(you can change it, or even make DOSBox start F.S. mode, in the DOSBox.conf file!

Cheers! Congratulatory

Well, this might be because sound in SC3 is a peice of frikkin crap, and didn't even run well back when it was made. Actually, SC3 in general is crap, play SC2 instead. Happy

(Sorry, not very helpful, but it may help to know that other people have been frustrated by the game as well)

And read the dosbox readme, plenty stuff you can do in dosboxconfig to improve graphics, what you can do? Try stuff out t'll you get what you want.
Hint:
dosboxconfig wrote:

# aspect -- Do aspect correction, if your output method doesn't support scaling this can slow things down!.

# If forced is appended (like scaler=hq2x forced), the scaler will be used
