I'm looking for a game I played many years ago off of some demo CD.

This is all what I vaguely remember so any parts might be a little wrong
It's a strategy game set above clouds on floating islands you can build paths off the side of your island and there are such buildings/units to create as the "Whirligig" a flying unit that spawns from a base and flies to the nearest enemy to bombard them, the Manowar, a water unit that spawns from a pool of water, some form of dragon head statue that fire small lightning bolts.
That's about all I can remember, just really want to see this game again.
Thanking you in advance (I hope)

After doing a bit of research into Stratosphere I can safely say this isn't the game I'm looking for, it was less controlling the island/ship and more RTS style building.

Sacrifice was more RTS ....

But that's pretty recent..?

A more detailed description #HotU:

[Edit]²
There was also an older early Windows or late Dos game with floating islands, you had to navigate them islands, build all kinds of weaponry, engine stuffs ... but I can't remember the name.
Damn.

AFter reading:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacrifice_(video_game)
This certainly rings lots of bells, though some differences to what I remember, instead of the 5 named gods I'm sure they were elements instead. The "Sac Doctors" and the main wizards altar are definitely things I remember.
So this 2000/2001 version of the earlier game I'm fairly sure is the right one.
Now I just need to find the name of this earlier game and find a way to play it! Shit-Eating Grin

Or, http://everything2.com/title/Netstorm for a big description including units.
I did a search for: whirligig manowar rts
and that was the top result.

That's the one! I had searched myself for all combinations of "old game" "whirligig" and "manowar" but all i got was how to make whirligigs and details on old torture devices :p
Thanks a lot both of you for your effort in helping me find this game.

Right so guess I'm off to Ebay to look for a copy!

Nice shot, AshyRaccoon.

Now yeah, says much about my memory that I couldn't remember the name .... Meh

Anyway, if you don't absolutely want a 'real' copy for collection purposes you can download Netstorm - Islands at War @ abandonia.com.

Just saying, ya know ....
