I just wanted to say I have used dosbox to play nesticle043.zip in xp and it works great.
All I do is run dosbox hit alt enter then
type mount c c:\
then type cd docume~1\admini~1\desktop\nes
then type nesticle and it works mouse seems to be loaded too! this is the by far best nes emulatoion box i have used the sound almost sounds perfect only a little buzz but sounds exactly the same.
I also have used dos box to run adv.exe the super old adventure colossal cave no sound but still works great.
GOOD LUCK.
so if youre still into nes emulation load up older nesticle043.zip and run dosbox the sound sound better .

Thanks for the post, I edited the title to be a bit more descriptive.

While we're here, anyone have a recommendation for the "best" (in terms of most faithful emulation on the widest spectrum of games) NES emulator for Windows? I use FCEUltra right now but that hasn't been updated in quite awhile so I was wondering if there's something better out there.

I use lately Nestopia v1.32 for Win, pretty good.
Higly customisable at your wishes.
But I won't say it's really much better then FCEUltra.

Seems I must get a newer version.......

Ahem Confuzzled
You really should read the stickies.
Tip:
Put the whole \nes\ folder in a new one, c:\games\, so you get c:\games\nes\
Your mount lines:
mount c c:\games
c:
cd nes

Desktop? Don't tell me you dump all your progs on your desktop, must be a complete mess your PC.

PSP? ...... Oh my.

BTW, if you want the closest original NES feeling the dos emus are best.
Just a thought.
