hi I'm looking for an old space exploration, I cannot remember what it was called at all. This is what I can remember from it: it was a massive exploration game where you could visit tons of solar systems and planets.
You start out on the moon base because (if I remember correctly) earth was destroyed. you start out with a crappy ship and crew and if one of your crew died while you were fighting on a planet you could CLONE them back at your moon base. You also had to collect minerals and gases from other planets and bring them back to your base so you could make new weapons and upgrade your ship. Furthermore when you traveled to other solar systems you would run into other ships that would either attack you or demand some kind of gas or metal. Also when you visited the planets it was kind of 3D but when you traveled the Galaxy it was 2D. Last thing I can remember about the crew was that either 1 or 2 of them were female and your tactical officer was a black man in a green/black suit. I have looked and looked for this game but cannot find it I really hope someone can help me on this.

The only game I can think of right now that matches all of those is Protostar. Is that your game? http://www.the-underdogs.info/game.php?id=849

Your game sounds very Starflightesque, especially like Alien Legacy (where you have a black science officer), but AL only takes place in one solar system?

Other games I haven't yet played but sound like it are Reunion and Iron Seed.

Do you remember the year it was made in?

And don't mind Wally - he'll be posting here with a completely random game that has nothing to do with what you're looking for... just ignore him.

Doesn't fit fully, but you can't have it all:
Millennium: Return to earth.

That fits 100%, don't remember if there was cloning in the game.

I'm leaning pretty strongly towards Iron Seed since Iron Seed includes cloning... let's wait and see. (PS, I love these kinds of games... I'll check out Millennium RTE when I have the time)

argh! non of theses were it thanks for helping. I am pretty sure it came out late 80's early 90's. you were also able to upgrade your ship with lasers, rockets, railguns and some other items that I cannot remember atm. 1 more thing I can remember atm is you could visit Alpha Centurei and land on a moon base there and thats where you got your first bit of shooting action and it wasn't FPS. (compared to the rest of the solar systems in the game Alpha was extremely close to yours which was named Sol.)
