Im interested in dos versions of games Im used to playing these days.
C&C is an obvious example of a once dos-version.
How about Shogun Total War? And Medieval Total War (first version)? Were there precursors for these games in Dos? |

Now there are plenty games that started in plain Dos and had Windows sequels.
If you talk about genres they all had a console/dos precursor somewhere.
I even seriously doubt that you can find a completely new genre in Windows - modern console gaming. |

I think I once saw a tree somewhere that linked the most important games and genres together. Can't seem to find it now, but it was pretty cool.
Yeah, real helpful. |

Even for something like 3D shooting games, is somewhat difficult to put 'em all in order and say who was "first", or even how to link 'em all together ...
Ex the usual progression is
Wolf 3D >> Doom >> Quake
But what about Catacomb Abyss? Hovertank? MIDI Maze???
Not to mention where to slot in Ken's Lab, Descent, Blake Stone, etc ... |

Now, maybe tic-tac-toe was the ancestor of all known games, many TTT games probably ended in bloodshed and murder when the caveman played.
Winner gets woman, ya know.
Alliances were made, there was betrayal, strategies, kind of RPG ... whatever it took to win. |

EG Viking Invasion: I ve come across an old game called "Vikings"which uses the same kind of map/territories approach. Very basic of course.
Im interested in the history of gaming. |
