Today I received an e-mail from Chris again. He has made several game related movies in the past and he asked me whether I could post his new release. Here's his e-mail:

Quote:
More than anything I have missed making my silly little game movies to entertain you guys like the good old days :-)

I haven't had much break from studies and freelance jobs to make any game movies for awhile now, but FINALLY I was kind of able to combine my outside work with fun game oriented work.

A friend of mine was doing a documentary about older games and how they advanced over the years. She'd asked me to do the narration which I was more than happy to do, and in addition to that I made her a song for her documentary. Unfortunately the documentary was called off, but the song I made still remained so I managed to make a little Youtube video with it. It's mostly slideshow and some video game footage for now, but I plan to make it into a good flash movie some time in 2008.

It's called 'Games That We've Played' and here is the YouTube link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2zm9JfIC4c

Chris is also working on another Flash movie called 'The Laughing Games Show' which will be completed in 2008. He won't give more details for now, but you can watch a sneak preview here:

Ooh sorry to hear about the bandwidth issues. Anywayz for now I'm just going post the lyrics of the song here so you can just have an idea of it. Also because I kinda goofed and forgot to add two lines in the subtitles I provided in the video.
Ashamed

I even intended to add more Dos Games to the video but capturing DOS using your hypercam or any standard Screen capture software is a killer Crying

Anywayz here it goes... (ahem)

GAMES THAT WE’VE PLAYED

Games that we’ve played
Time and again
Never seems to fade

Simplest of laughs
Easy to grasp
Those pixled dreams
From our past

Pixelated
Skies so blue…

Games that we’ve played
Time and again
Never seems to fade

Simplest of laughs
So easy to grasp
Those pixled dreams
From our past

Before movies poured in
To make revenue
Games were more original and true

From Happy go nonsense
Products of innocence
Games now take up your existence

The graphics and sound
Improved so much
But they’ve lost their magic touch

Such fun little toys
For all girls and boys
Now just mass marketed ploys

The prices soar high. And then you wonder why piracy thrives.

No music nor sound
Could be sweeter to hear
Than those secret levels found

Now all kids want
Are cheat codes to see
More blood and obscene nudity

Technology moves strong. But must you drag our innocence along

But don’t mistake me
I still believe
Just don’t monopolized
There’s more to games than what you see with your eyes

Simplest of laughs
Easy to grasp
Those pixled dreams
From our past

I've been working on both the lyrics and music since June (when I bought my new Yamaha E403 keyboard) but sadly could never get around to recording it. The video on the other hand took 2 days top Laughing

Btw that shot you see me of playing the grand piano isn't mine... that's not even my home, just a holiday resort of my dad's company I went to for summer vacation. It belongs to a very old famous South Indian actor who died recently and left his home for tourism.

Readme in dosbox 0.72 ZMBV folder wrote:

Starting with version 0.65, DOSBox allows you to create movies out of screen
output.

To record a movie, you have to press CTRL-ALT-F5.
To stop/end the recording, you have to press CTRL-ALT-F5 again.

To play the recorded movie, you need a movie player which can handle the
ZMBV codec. MS Windows users can find this codec in the start menu entry of
DOSBox. Users of Linux and other OSes should look for a movie player that
uses the ffmpeg libary (you may need to update or ask your distribution to
upgrade).

FAQ:
Q: During the display of the movies the sound is lagging.
A: Check your display properties to see whether your refresh rate is set to
at least 70 hz. Try playing the movie in virtualdub (http://virtualdub.sf.net)

Q: Why does the resulting movie consist of multiple files?
A: Each time the game changes resolution, DOSBox creates a new movie file,
because a movie file can only contain one resolution.

Q: Can I set the cycles higher than my PC can handle during recording?
A: Yes. During recording, the game might play slowly and stuttering, but the
resulting movie should play at the intended speed and have no stuttering.

Q: CTRL-ALT-F5 switches to the console under linux.
A: 1. Start DOSBox like this: dosbox -startmapper
2. Click on Video, click on Add
3. Press the key you want (for example scroll lock or printscreen)
4. Click exit.
5. You can make movies by pressing scroll lock or whichever key you
selected.

Q: The colours are wrong and I'm using 64 bit windows
