Well, did you read the DOSBox readme?

And for that matter, did you know that(no, the following is not some obscure info on DOSBox):

You had to mount your directories. Say your games are in C:\Games\DOS

Well you mount C:\Games\DOS as C in DOSBox, using the

mount c c:\games\dos

command, then changing the directory to the games' via the changedir command:

cd [game folder name goes here]

And then[if your game has one] running setup or install or whatever, to set the sound and such.

And then, just THEN, run the game? :)

Oh, and moved it to Get Games to Work!

Added the little c:,won't work without it.

Also, did you used the search function here? Several games have a howto.

My MSN is private, only for my children and grandchildren.

But maybe you could begin with telling us WHAT games you tried.
A 'whole bunch' isnt very helpfull to get you on the way.
Start posting for one game.

Once you get the first one running it's usually easier to get the others running.

In the link I gave you the first howto is about CKeen.

State PRECISELY where you having trubbles.
If you get an error message POST it.
Also: describe exactly what you have done t'll now.
EVERY step ,input, we need ALL those.

A 'IT WON'T WORK' won't work here.

Are you on a restricted account on Vista?
In other words: do you have writing rights in c:\program\ files?

If not: ask someone with admin rights to do it for you.

*Edit
Of course you can always input
mount c c:\games
c:

directly at the dosboxprompt.

You have a restricted account on your own laptop? That's a bummer!

(And further proves my theory that Vista is crap... yea... MY theory :P )

Owell, since I personally don't know much about Vista accounts, maybe you should have a look-see here! ;)

Don't touch firewall,avirus or WinDefender settings.
Stay away from those. Really.

You don't have to be a compy genius to run dosbox.
Even if you're on a restricted account in Vista.

But: you can get help IF you answer our questions.
So we can precisely see where it goes wrong and correct if needed.
From here I gonna assume that we are trying to get CKeen4 running.
Just to get things on the way.

First things first:
1-> could you create a c:\games ?
2->
dosraider wrote:Of course you can always input
mount c c:\games
c:

directly at the dosboxprompt.
What happens when you input those lines at the dosboxprompt?
Dosboxprompt is that weird looking Z:\> thingy in the dosboxwindow.

Need those two answers from you.
Again: if you get error messages or so post them so correctly as possible.

@Larry:

So first you blame MS that their OS isn't safe enough.
And when they provide an OS that is much safier then the previous one you blame then again.
About those admin or non-admin acounts: You clearely NEVER had to work in Unix or Linux. The normal way to work in those is ALWAYS as non-root. That is one of the reasons Unix/Linux was safier then Windows (they are still better ... but yeah you get the point).
