My computer has no ctrl. Only a Reset, and an Power-button.
Fortunately, my keyboard has 2 Ctrl-keys. |

Nitpicking mood MiniMax ?
Isn't your keyboard part of your PC?
If yes : your PC has 2 CTRLs buttons.
/Nitpicking mode off

OR :
I don't understand WHAT you are trying to say
OR:
You have NO IDEA what dual boot is.
THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE ACTIVE, NEVER BOTH, ONLY ONE OF THEM CAN BE C:, THE OTHER MUST BE 'HIDDEN' AND WILL NOT GET A DRIVE LETTER ASSIGNED
Dual boot ( or multi):
PRIMAIRY with W98SE
PRIMAIRY with XP
ONLY one of both can be active as C: , further partitions for storage will be LOGICAL partitions made in an EXTENDED partition , D: E: F: and so on. |
Since we are so eager to smash each other for not having the slightest clue what we are talking about, let me say this to dosraider: You too don't know what you are talking about.
In my home PC, I have a single 200 GB Maxtor drive.
On that single drive, I have 3 primary partitions, and 1 extended partition, with 8 logical partition inside the extended partition.
On primary 1, I have Windows 95 installed.
On primary 2, I have Windows 98 installed.
On primary 3, I have ... well, I don't remember - probably an Win98 for testing.
Primary 2 & 3 are hidden (which is just another way of saying that they have been given an partition-type that Windows don't recognize so it will ignore them during boot. They are not really hidden. Just start the Windows Disk Manager, and they will be visible)
On the 8 logical partitions, I have a variety of stuff. My main Windows XP is on H:, with a test-install of Windows XP on J:
Edit: And the Win95 install is setup with a boot-menu so I can drop into MS-DOS 6.22 during startup.
Edit2: Okay -dosraider went into more details in his(?) 'harddrive basics for abyss' post. Seems s/he has a big bucket of clues when it comes to hard-drive partitioning.

Ow ow ow : but they ARE hidden.
The non-active ones don't have a drive letter assigned.
The active one is assigned C.
Check your facts.
Windows Disk Manager is a (basic) partition manager.
Of course WDM sees them.
You will NOT see them in explorer.
You can NOT access them in explorer.
You can only see the ACTIVE one in explorer.
You can only access the ACTIVE one in explorer.
Only visible in a partition manager, and that does not have to be WDM, just boot an ol'dos PM version3 , (The FAT32 kind) and even that one will see them, of course, that's why they are partition managers.
[EDIT]
Wireless or not, it's part of your PC.
So :
Your PC has 2 CTRL keys.
Abyss did not say:
My PC case has only 1 CTRL key. |

| Thieir is some really use with having 2 storage drives. I have 4dos start up automatically load up whenever i start dosbox and i have my games in the other drive. It is true my keyboard has only a left ctrl. It's true that my video card is vesa compliant and i have only 256 mb ram. |

| Why the combination 4Dos and dosbox ? If it's for the extended batch capacities you would be much better off with the ol'Norton 'BE ** ' batch extender. |

I love how my thread turned into a techno-babble e-penis fight.
No really, continue.

The active-flag has nothing to with the visibility. The active-flag only determine which of the primaries that will be the boot-device.
And unless I am mistaken, it is only the BIOS that is concerned about the active-flag when it goes searching for a boot-loader. DOS and Windows will happily work with a disk with 4 primary partitions - active or not. |

Yeah, it's indeed getting boring.
You know what MiniMax ?
You are right, and I'm an ignorant when it comes to HD partitioning or using partition tools.
You may continue this discussion on your own.
Have fun. |
