Straight to the point. It was a top down view tank game where you can pick between a variety of vehicles: tanks, heavy tanks, jeeps, etc. with each vehicle having it's advantages and disadvantages. You could play capture the flag between teams (CTF and other gameplay modes). It was a multiplayer game where two (maybe even four) people could play on one computer but was split screen. Each side had many other tanks on each team (if you set it that way). The graphics were basic - good, but the gameplay ruled! I'm trying to find this game because I have a few friends/family members I'd like to play this with. The game was not a DOS game - you could just double-click on the icon and poof. The entire thing was free. Thanks everyone. |

| Hmm... I don't know. I used to be able to play it on windows, though. I researched a lot of games from googling yesterday, but I wasn't able to find it. All of the games I found were either for sale or were not top down view (not the game I'm looking for). I appreciate anyone and everyone's help with this. |

Damn you KT_Cobra... I hate it when I feel the sudden urge to play a game I don't even know how it's named or when I can be found |

I believe it's called Return Fire. I'm not quite sure about it being free and all, though. But yeah, it's a fun multiplayer game...after someone stops driving and finally starts thinking.
It also has a lesser known sequel: Return Fire 2. A 3D version of the first. |

Your description reminds me of a game i played through MAME...The controls were split up on the keyboard...One person had the arrow keys, another had ZXC ans S (in formation of arrow keys) and stuff like that...Is this similar?

| Yes. It was a multiplayer game like that. Where two people (or more I think) could play on one keyboard, but I don't think it was a MAME game. I remember only having to download it and install it to play. Return Fire... looks like a sweet game but this game had simpler graphics and was a direct top-down view game with quite a few vehicles on each team. If we can find this game together I just KNOW everyone would love it (just my opinion at least). |

| Hmm...if it's not Return Fire, then you might be thinking about the one that has Hovercrafts, Tanks and Jeeps and pits you on some hilarious game modes like Capture the Cow aside from the ordinary DM and TeamDM... Did weapons include a BFG and scatter bombs? |

| Ironside... I'll google that. As for the BFG thing, I don't believe so. Capture the cow... why does that sound familiar. I don't know if I'm thinking that the game may have had that or if I'm thinking of some other game. However, it's VERY possible that the game DID have hovercrafts. Thanks. |

Sorry to keep being a pain about this game, but I'm STILL searching for it after a couple of months. I googled Ironside - I don't see anything relating to what I'm looking for. I appreciate it, though. |

Hmm...try Recreational Warfare then. But if you don't think the BFG is not one of the included weapons, well, perhaps it's not the game you're looking for. The BFG is the highlight of RecWar. It also sports UT commentary for multiple kills, two-player split screen gaming, network gaming, two-player split screen gaming AND network gaming simultaneously, up to 64 (62 bots + the 2 players on one PC) players in one arena alone. Alotta mayhem, eh?
It only sports a Tank (massive armor, slow speed and low maneuverability over land and even lower over water, 360-degree weapon coverage), a Hovercraft (medium armor, medium speed over any terrain except walls and insane handling, forward-arc 180-degree weapon coverage), and a Jeep (low armor, full speed over land and medium over water and high maneuverability, straight ahead weapon coverage). No Heavy Tanks here. But there are advantages and disadvantages as you have recalled existed.
Oh yes, and this game IS free. Not installed though. Just unzipped. Nifty that.
But I do hope it is the one you are looking for. It's the only really fun game to play with lots of people. |

OH MY GOODNESS!!! That's the one!!! Thank you so much! My search has ended. I feel like Frodo and same back in the Shire after that year long trip. Wow thanks to everyone who helped me find this game. I really do appreciate it. You have all helped someone be reunited with an old friend. Thanks again, and I will continue to try and help others in this forum as always. |
