http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/usin ... iboot.mspx

That's the official way to do it.

Do some goog'ling and you will learn that there are many other ways.

Then you will need a partition manager, shrink your XP primairy to create free space, install your second OS at choice on another new created primairy, install a bootmanager.....

Don't take this badly, but I get the feeling that you will try this for the first time.
Be aware that it isn't that easy to get all those things in good working order.
You better look somewhere in your neighbourhood for someone who knows this stuff, and ask for help.

That's my advise, take it or leave it.

Agreed, don't start messing around with partitions and O/S unless you are very clear on what you're doing. Often times you can screw something up majorly, and not have so much as a warning prompted to you. Good luck though. :thumbsup:

There are many ways to do so, if you would think a bit you would easily find solutions.
( a second cd drive, bootable CD with the W98 boot on it /// install minimal dos first with CD support on the HD[[yes dos can be installed from a bootable CD]], W98 can be installed from a dos HD /// beg steal or borrow a flopdrive t'll you installed W98/// if you have a bootable USB use that one /// create a bootable W98 CD with the install files on it [[[you will need winISO to do so]]]///...... many many many other possibilities .... ... .. . . . . . . ..///)

I will repeat myself here:
I get the feeling you aren't very familiar with such things, get help on the spot friend, you will not be the first to screw up a HD trying things without having the neccesary knowledge.

An easier way.

Before you start make sure you can have a boot menu with a choice of drives

Have two Hard Disks

One with Xp
One With 98

Install the One you are not going to boot off all the time into the slave slot with the jumper on the drive set to slave

The one you are going to use all the time must be set up as master with the jumper on the drive set to master.

Install them into the computer as Master and slave (Master is the end of the IDE cable, slave is the middle).

Then use the boot menu at start up time to select the drive to boot off

Rob seeing ur not that far from me i could mail you two floppy drives if you pay postage. :)

Not all the PC bios are able to boot into a slave HD.
So: check that first.
You still need a bootmanager.(the not-used primairy MUST be hidden)
Don't know what's the advantage of a second HD ? You still need:
=> bootmanager
=> primairy partition W98
=> primairy partition XP
=> eventually extended partition+logicals.

You will have some more HDspace, that's all.

And it does not resolve his install without bootflop.

PS Wally, throw some flopdrives over here .... :D

Nope, that was the sound of a flopdrive hitting my forehead.
THX Wally. :Angry:

Robhofen, one thing I haven't mentioned t'll now:
Create at least one logical FAT32 partition, that one you can use as "swap" between XP and W98 so you can easily exchange folders/files between the two OS.
W98 has more then enough with a 1G primairy, use the logical FAT32 to store files you use in W98 and Xp, so you lose less HD space.

Also: before starting your install routine, check that you are on the right W98 primairy, you wouln't be the first to format the XP primairy .... :)

Trick: LABEL correctly your primairies.
