No, it's not. And I'm the evidence. Shit-Eating Grin

It has some really nice things to it. Some puzzles are interesting, there are cool secrets, a few funny gimmicks, a challenging and interesting last level, good fun in two-player mode.

Edit: not to mention - kickass music!

Then again, it probably could have been done better (i.e more user-friendly), even at the expense of staying faithful to the original DOOM games.

The first one in the demo.

Go into the water, all the way down and to the left. Jump up into a secret room to get a chainsaw. The chainsaw makes things a lot easier in this level and in many subsequent levels. Now swim up in the water to where you saw that imp and a switch earlier. Hit the switch, return to the starting point and go up through the now opened door. You will have to kill an imp and a demon (killing the demon is piece of cake with the chainsaw, nearly impossible with the pistol). At the far right press the button to drop the red key and return to the starting point again. Continue to the right over the water and press the button to open the red door. Now, jump into the wall on your left, there is a secret room there containing a shotgun, which is also very helpful. A hidden teleported next to the green armor will teleport you to the exit room where you'll have to kill two imps and a zombieman. Jumping and shooting them with the shotgun works best here.

Some people actually bothered to make levels for this game. Some of these levels are quite cool. All in all, the game allows for deep strategies, much deeper than in the simple action game. Even the first level can become frustrating if you don't have a plan. I suspect that most people who gave up on the game very early did so because of the first level.
