Well, I'd double check the malware protection.

And if that comes clear, shrug it off.

So this is not really a question...
I just wanted to let people know that if i am uncharacteristically absent from the forums for prolongued periods of time that it is because tomorrow afternoon i am moving to a different state and alas, out of my parents house and away from their internet connection.
I'm not going to be getting internets of my own until i find out whether i'm into the uni course i have applied to... so until mid / late january or even as late as late february, i will only be accessing the interwebs when i am at McDonald's or Gloria Jeans.
Sorry for any inconvenience. :)

Oh! I do have a question... What is a free, legal program that can open and edit .doc files?

Fully seconded.

Should you wonder what version, for now it's best to stick with 3.1.1 (or 3.1), once the 3.2 is out in final release it will be -probably- best to upgrade to 3.2.x, just give it some time.
...As usual with upgrades, don't upgrade too soon, there are always some minor bugs to correct....

Well i have the internet again. :)
I bought a new PC aswell...
Q8200 Intel Core2 Quad
4G ram
1TB hd
HD 4650 ATI Radeon 1G

I also have another few questions.

When we bought the computer we also bought a set of logitech surround sound speakers with 2 front, 2 back, 1 top and 1 bass. When i set it up (as best as i can) i can only get sound coming from the top, front 2 and bass. How do i get the back 2 involved as well?

Next question... does anyone use Adobe Illustrator enough to explain to me how to use the mesh tool in CS4? I've been trying to achieve something for the past like 4 hours and i just don't understand the tool at all. I finally have it looking how i want, but i still have no idea how the tool works...?

Think that's all for now. :)

Correct type?
Did you install the suited logitech drivers for your stuff?
AKA: details .....

Also: not all programs do support surround sound.
For movies I prefer http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
Also will only work if surround sound is available ( older DVDs-movies not always have it )

Logitech X-530 5.1 Surround...
I've had a google and stuff but i can't find anything that i understand.
This will probably sound like a silly question, but do soundcards effect how many channels you can have?
There were no drivers that came with the speakers and none that i can find on the logitech website...
Their website says its Windows 7 compatible and no software is needed.
What should be my next step?

Black plug didn't work... but i already knew that.
The back two speakers won't play sound... and when...
Hmmmmmm.
I just did something i had already done before and this time it worked.
In the Realtek HD audio manager i selected that it was a 7.1 and then disabled the side pairs... and it worked this time. That's weird.
Something i didn't mention before as well was that when i selected the 'virtual surround' setting, the audio through the back speakers was really tinny and soft.
I guess it doesn't matter though anymore. :)
Thanks for your help...
What you were saying before about some old dvds not having surround and stuff, is that the same for some mp3s? And some games? Different things having different channels?

GAMER wrote:What you were saying before about some old dvds not having surround and stuff, is that the same for some mp3s? And some games? Different things having different channels?
An explanation would be long and kinda complicated, real surround sound is relatively new ( now yeah, relatively if you're 54 as I am .....)
An interesting article can be found @ Wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surround_sound
If you don't want to read the stuff just scroll down a bit to the 'Surround sound specifications' and take look at the 'Standard speaker channels' rooster, you'll see that 'real surround' wasn't even available with stereo, you need more.
So you can't have real surround on older movies, even on the so called 'remastered' DVDs, can only be 'fake' surround....

Also to keep in mind: it's normal that the sound volume from the back speakers is not as high as from the others, they are mainly used as 'support' for sound effects that blast through the central-bass-side speakers. (not that I care much about surround, my hearing and my ears are as old as I am, thus kinda faulty, stereo is more then swell enough for me).

So my loverly boyfriend has been clicking pop-ups and downloading poker games.
In short, i have no idea what is now on my computer.
I'm running avast! but it has picked up nothing...
My internet has been a bit oddly behaved lately, sometimes not connecting at all and sometimes going really slow. This could just be my provider, but it hasn't done this before. I also noticed a file called 00001009.LCS in my My Documents folder. (Running win 7) What is this file? I'm currently downloading SpyBot Search and Destroy on advice by Ro@m... but yeah.

Get that, also get Ad Aware, install and update them

Then, boot in safe mode(restart computer, press F8 till the boot menu shows up, -> safe mode) and scan with those AND avast.

Afterwards, slap your boyfriend over the head and install Comodo Firewall.

Did a couple of scans... Came back with nothing.
Sent the file to a friend, he opened it or did... something... i have no idea, but he sent back text from the file and it read as "ProtectDisc - License File, (c) 2005 Protect Software GmbH" so that sounds pretty harmless. Something from silly boyfriend ripping his cd's to his iphone perhaps?
I'm going to put child safetylocks on everything after i do a system restore in a couple days... but i'm a bit worried about my internet connection for when i do the restore. I had trouble setting it up in the first place and eventually fluked it. :upset: Anyone know anything about TPG's naked broadband in Australia and their installation process? Heh.

Wally knows, but if you connect via a router there shouldn't be any problem.
