It's funny you should mention how thin the first girl was because I feel in media they portray unrealistically skinny women so much it sometimes brainwashes girls to think to be beautiful u need to look skeletal thin. Sad

I'm workin on a new movie/documentary more or less abt that called "Cliches or REAL Babes". Here's the trailer if anyone's interested.

You know what i hate more than the media portraying ACTUAL underweight girls as healthy...? (I don't think the woman in the clip was underweight)
The media and society telling girls that it's okay to be plus size.
Being fat is UNHEALTHY.
I am a healthy woman and i am an Australian size 6 - 8.
I get VERY angry when i read in magazines and newspapers that women my size are "unrealistic".
I am healthy and all women should strive to be a healthy size.
Size 12 is not healthy.
It makes me angry to no end when i hear women bag other women who are my size as "too thin" or "skeletal" or any other such rubbish when they're just excusing their own poor health. Angry
Especially when there is a global obesity epidemic, i really don't think it's a terrible thing for there to be size 6 models in media.
And whilst i understand all the self-confidence and self-image issues, i can't condone society ignoring the fact that being overweight is unhealthy, just as being underweight is. If they want to ban size 6 models, they need to ban plus size models as well.

Gamer: while I definitely agree with you, I still think the girl in that video looked way underweight. I've seen pictures/webcam of you and you're very skinny, but of a healthy weight. The first woman looked sort of nasty to me, just not my personal tastes.

OTOH, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I'm not going to take the douchebag position of bashing or condemning a woman for how she chooses to look. She can look however she wants, I just comment on the aesthetics of the movie, just like I'd say "oh she's hot" or "damn, she's ugly." I'd much rather see some unsightly bones than unsightly masses of quivering fat drooping everywhere, I guess.

Fat girls demanding skinny girls stop being skinny because it's making them insecure is just as stupid as skinny guys demanding muscular guys stop lifting weights because it makes them feel insecure. Can you imagine how ridiculous it would be if someone demanded that?

Turkeys are very delicious, I've eaten 2 in the past 2 days. (thereby lowering the chances of me ever being that skinny... Meh Crying)

despite what the article says, there's no indication that he actually pardoned Carolina... in fact, it looks like he went and ate her. (unless he somehow secretly pardoned her and has her living in a safe house somewhere)

I think America must have the most ridiculous traditions of any country on the planet.

Hmmm, I like the idea that Carolina is now living in the countryside somewhere with a new identity.

It's all in good fun. Ridiculous? Maybe. Funny? Yes.

Actually, from what I've heard, weight is not really an indicator of health. It may be an indicator of lifestyle, but it probably has more to do with genetics.
Yes, excess fat is not good, but having some weight is not bad.

Maybe this is me being used to American women, but a Australian size of 12 seems about normal, or even on the thinner side.

Actually, amazingly enough, Australia has more overweight/obese people percentage wise than the US. They're #1 in the world. (we're a close second, though)

I know a guy who's chronically about 20 lbs overweight, but runs 5 or 6 miles daily, bikes everywhere, works out, and was an offensive lineman in college. He can't seem to drop the weight (he loves eating food too much), but is definitely healthier and more physically fit than most skinny guys his age. He can run a mile in 6:10.

I'd say that, while being fat is certainly unhealthy (increased chances of diabetes, heart problems, joint injury, etc.), being skinny doesn't automatically make you healthy, especially if you eat a lot of junk food and don't exercise. You're almost as bad off as a fat person in that position.

The problem is that overweight is typically defined using BMI criteria. BMI is a statistical model to evaluate society as a whole, not an individual.

Well, you can't deny obesity is a pretty big problem. I think BMI is rather laughable, though... my BMI is 25.8 at 6' 2" and 201 lbs, which classifies me as "overweight." Sarcastic I have a 29 inch waist. The BMI was obviously designed for petite women, not athletes and soldiers. (despite the claim it's applicable for men)

FWIW, at his slimmest while winning Mr. Olympia for the 6th time, Arnold Schwarzenegger had a BMI of 30.8. Yep, according to the BMI, he was obese, and this was after a couple weeks of cutting weight for the contest:

I agree with most of the stuff said...
But chances are, a thinner person is going to be more healthy than an obese person.
I know there are individuals in both categories that defy this, but on average, it stands true.

On the statement about size 12 australian as being "normal"... It IS the average size of the australian woman. But just because it's the average definitely does not mean it's okay. That's the argument used by most people that are overweight to defend their unhealthy choices - but i'm no bigger than the average woman! well, sorry to break it to you sweetheart, but the average woman is overweight!

Completely agree that some "thin" people are just as unhealthy as some overweight people (i used to have a terrible diet and exercise regime and was a lot thinner than i am now that i have a good diet), but excess fat is a pretty good indicator of a poor diet and exercise plan.

Just out of curiosity, what's the average size of women in other countries?
