Post subject: FTW Vista restrictions - WMP |
|
|
Oh my, WMP on my son's PC (Vista :/ ) refuses to play some copied and self made movies. (FTW refuses even to play some AVI files )
A quick look/ask around and I've installed this:
http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/jetAudio_Basic/jetaudio.html
Plays everything without asking questions, converts almost everything to everything (audio-video), takes screenies if you want, makes playlists, CD rips, CD burnings .....
Pretty complete and well working gem.
Freeware of course.
Works in all Win from W98 up. |

Looks neat, but then again, I'm using The KMPlayer(the standalone windows app, not the KDE frontend) for all my media needs, and does all those things ol' dosraider listed(I still can't understand why some people would like to watch movies where their wallpaper should be, instead of fullscreen, but meh), sans burning CDs(but, then again, once you got Nero, burning CDs with media players is overkill)
Er, yea, and Vista sux! |

I don't think it's just WMP on Vista... I'm pretty sure WMP v10 onwards has hissy fits about illegal files?

Yeah, try to make my n00b_son understand that.
BTW:
Whilst we're on the subject of handy progs, that's also one that all XP/Vista users should have:
http://www.auslogics.com/disk-defrag/
Defrag, freeware, and much much better-faster than the basic MS one you get with XP/Vista. |

I agree with you dosraider, WMP11 is total crap, I wouldn't use it if my life depended on it. When I installed it, it wouldn't go on any further unless I installed the plug-in for URGE. URGE is somewhat a legal music downloading site similiar to Apple's iTunes...At first it bugged the hell out of me when ripping CD's as it would direct me to buy the download of the CD I just bought, so I installed WinAmp and FreeRIP. Don't really like the WinAmp ripping utility as it is quite similiar to WMP. So I use FreeRIP to do all my ripping...for back-up purposes only! |

Now that we seems to go on the freeware rip tools, that's the one I use and install when one of the youngsters in the neighbourhood asks advise:
http://www.audiograbber.com-us.net/
Never let me down, excellent program.
Top quality for *cough* backup purposes.
Needs lame encoder for best quality, but that's easily findable. |

I'm not stating Audiograbber is bad program, I have my reasons for not using it. |
