I have recently decided to get into transport tycoon again. Having found a copy of the game i tried to run it, first off i get a error message about the program trying to open com ports 3 & 4, no biggie i just hit ignore. Then i get the game running and i get the microprose splashscreen. Once i escape outta that i get the games main menu wher it promptly drops me back to windows after different amounts of time. I was wondering if anyone else had encountered this and managed to get around it...
Cheers A Frikkin Cuccoan

i have 2 questions:

1.
do u (for some bazarre reason) possibly have a network setup on either the game, or your home computer(s)? That is prolly what the com error is about.

2.
What operating system does your computer have?

i've had the same port problem on my pc don't feel alone with this game.

Well to get around that problem i used my parents old 98 machine. It sometimes hangs up because it's only a 300mhz computer but it plays. I have heard if you use a 98 boot disk you can boot up your computer to dos at startup and then just go cd/ C:\mps\ttdlx or whatever directory its in and type tycoon and it should load as long as the configuration was already set. i found in xp and 98 if you can get this game to load you can't get sound effects to work but booting to dos fixed that problem for me. hopefully this will help you too.

i would try booting to dos. you can also boot to dos with an xp cd i believe by using the restore option when your xp cd starts up but don't quote me on that i only did that once to get into dos but it got me to dos with the cd so it should work. But try the 98 diskette first. I LOVE TTDLX!!!!!! They should make more, actually i heard they were making a second one but i don't know for sure. Celebratory

well i just found this site and it's been recently updated this month i think... http://www.ttdpatch.net/]
it has patchs for TTDLX. there is even a beta patch that the site is working on for more tweaks and updates to TTDLX. I also found out from this site if you use the original patch from microprose it will revert TTDLX to just TT without the deluxe. Althought the patch does give all the same features of Deluxe and a couple extra things you will lose the deluxe part im' told... i haven't tried it so i don't know. but they are working on new signals and vehicle designs i guess at this site just give it a look. I'm in no way affiliated with this site so i'm just posting this incase anyone needs the info they have.

"...i heard they were making a second one but i'm not sure."
Well they started making another one years ago but it was abandoned and later made into Roller Coaster Tycoon(You played that game? It's pretty fun[to me].) After 2 expansions to it, the creator started on 2 projects, one turned out to be Roller Coaster Tycoon 2, then made an expansion to it, now he might be working on the other. I agree, I'd like to see another Transport Tycoon (especially one that works under XP, cause that's what I have). By the way, do you know where I might find a Win 98 bootdisk?
