there is good info here.
but it does not really help much.
what if you are not tech savy to do the changes you list
or do no have time?
there should be someone out there that has already done
these things and can make a copy of their work to share with
others. for EX: changing the 8 bit into 16 bit on the old games
so they can work under windows only.

I know bootlegging is no right but someone should have already
changed some of the dos games into working just in windows mode
only.

Me thinks he asks for ports.
Making dosgames running as windows ones.

Google for "gamename+windows+port" or "gamename+remake", you'll find a lot of those.

A good place to start is AB Reloaded, only remakes/freeware there:

And be sure to visit their forums, plenty info on windows ports there.

Dos Box interesting.
I have tried that and my system goes bonkers.
I had to recover my system 5 times.
there has got to be another way????????
some savy programers could redo most DOS games
to work strickly under windows.

You had your answers, look up for ports and remakes.
If you want dosgames running directly in XP recode them yourself.
