I've checked Trekcore and I can't find it - the screenshot there of EGA Trek looks very much like the display I remember from this game, but it ran in real-time and didn't have "sectors" etc. - the "universe" was one large area you could fly around in.

Lots of color - different types of weapons and aliens, including one annoying alien who'd chase your ship and drain it of energy. Different planets with resources.

Imagine a cross between EGA Trek and the video game "Bosconian" and you'll pretty much have what I'm looking for.

I could have sworn the game was "VGA Trek", but a) it LOOKS more like EGA Trek and b) none of the "VGA Trek"s I can see corresponds to it.

Another detail - documentation had to be accessed from inside the game; there was no seperate doc file, and the instructions were very long and very complicated. The game would have probably come out around the late Eighties.

Any ideas?

Could it be Visual Star Trek?

Something similar?

Something similar - I've downloaded Visual Star Trek from HotU and that's not it.

You sure it's not one of the games in the "If you liked this game, try:" section(lower on the page)?

Nope. Like I said, EGA Trek would be what I'm thinking of, if it didn't have sectors and wasn't turn-based. It had VERY simple graphics, as I recall.

Hmmmm, problem is of course that every shareware CD in those days was filled with Star Trek clones, there are tons of those.

Take a look@Starclash 2:

And do a search@

Even if HotUs is a bit slow to use as search engine .... Sad

I WAS called VGA Trek, and it was an advanced version of EGA Trek.

Now only problem is, it's nowhere on the 'Net. No-where. There's ANOTHER VGA Trek I can find, but it's not the one I want. Urgh!

If anyone can help me out it'd be greatly, greatly appreciated. Meanwhile it's back to my floppies to see if maybe I had a copy squirreled away on a disk that still actually works...

And this is the evil pretender Wink to the VGA Trek throne:

Will take a further look when I have some time ..... don't hold your breath, won't be soon that I will dig through my ol'CDs again, sorry.

One of those days I will make a complete DB of what's on thoseCDs.

See, that's the problem with procrastination. For about 6 years now I've been burning different games onto CDs and saying "I'll categorize all this one day when I have the time." Well, I have about 50 CDs full (plus a couple shareware browsers with 1000+ games), which I think adds up to ~8,000 or so games, and if I were try and organize that mess now it'd take years. Sad
