First of all - you don't have to thank me for resolving the problem which you weren't able to resolve so long.
Than:
Amro - dk II is a piece of crap, indeed. That's why you should play dk gold.
Franpa - It's all about sound problem in WORKING version of dk gold, sorry
And finally - you can try demo version of dk. It should've got those missing sound files, too.
P.S. By exchangeing sound files you can change launguage from en to your own (polish version has much better dubbing than original) |
I don't get it... |

| torrenting a copy righted product is illegal in most places, so maybe you shouldnt discuss it on these forums? |

I don't get it??? You're all talking about this "ripped" version of the game and distributing it freely amongst yourselves... How is that any different?? Except of course, I offered to share my abandonware with you all in it's perfect form... |

You are looking for two files named:
SOUND.DAT and SPEECH.DAT
They can be found by downloading a Dungeon Keeper (original) demo-- just unzip and copy those two files from the Sound folder of the demo game and past them into the sound folder for your "soundless" keeper gold directory.
If you did it right the sound folder will have 3 items:
A folder named "atlas" and the two you just put in there.
Enjoy.
Now if anyone can help me get past the Deeper dungeons wanting me to enter a CD I would be grateful. |

use winISO to put CD on harddrive(or nero if you have a CD burner). Make it a ISO. Use www.daemon-tools.cc to mount it. You have mount up to 4 CDs, so you don't need to keep inserting it and wearing out your CD-drive. |

Daemon tools works fine of course, but:
You can also use imgmount directly in dosbox at the command prompt. No need for an extra program.
Dosbox can perfectly mount CD images without extern programs.
Makes it easier to run demanding games for your PC.
The less programs are running on the background the smoothier the games run. It happens that some games will lag terribly when using daemon tools -(or other tools)- with dosbox.
example:
imgmount d x:\image.iso -t iso
Works also with cue/bin images. |

if you have the original dungeon keeper disk
its best to rip them from there that way you dont MISS anything.
The Demos dont always have everything maybe some sounds like mistress's or something and may cause the game to crash.
If anything copy the sound directory from D:\KEEPER and it should work fine |

| you don't need dosbox for dungeon keeper gold. =) i play it as well. There are problems with music or sounds. On either one. It's sad, but doesn't really spoil gameplay unless it's sound, which i think is DK2 |

Guated: It's just for that that you use dosbox, it solves the sound probs under WinNT ones. (IRQ-DMA access, drivers....)
If you don't care 'bout sound and music you can get 80% of the dosgames running in XP (not Vista).
And dosbox takes also care of the fact that some monitors can't lower enough their resolution for old games.
Lets forget the speed issues for now, or we're going for another 10 pages discussion meheh.
Gaming pleasure is half about the sounds, no sounds or crappy sounds is no fun. |

Ahem Wally ...
http://www.dosgames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10083
Dungeon Keeper is originally a Dosgame that has a Windows version.
Both versions were on the full CD when it was released.
Most rips (the HotU one also) lack the dosversion. |
