In order to prevent spam (and because many of the other mods are MIA) The_Sinister_Mastermind has been made a mod of Find Old Games and Get Games to Work, and SpaceFans has been made a mod of Game Help, Hints & Tips ... both on a trial basis for now although I don't anticipate any problems.  |

I値l be pretty busy over the next few days since my family is all coming over to my house for xmas, but after that I値l trawl through the phpBB main download site and see if I can find anything to help prevent bots from posting.

Okay, seriously, back to topic, otherwise I'll be really spamming.
After the guest posting was stop, it did stopped the nonsensical long advertisement spam. As for whether it is good or bad, it's hard to comment. It might discourage people wanting help but not wanting to register from posting but on the other hand if they are serious enough they would register. Maybe you'll end up with more members that way. Perhaps this is wise choice but if one day you succeed in stopping mass spamming, you mught like to consider reverting back.
One thing I never figure out is why spam on different forums have different style. The main spam on this forum is the long advertisement with nonsense links. One another place seen before it's vulgar words & porn. Then some place is numberous repeated alphabets or words. Then there was one forum that allowed guest posting but had no spam. Then again there were hardly much posting in that forum too. This lead me to think maybe certain kind of spammers like to visit certain forums. Then again, there is no evidence to indicate spamming behaviour unless one conducts a survey like "Why do you like to spam". Of course no one would ever do that as it is not a wise idea.  |

| The problem isn't actual users spamming to their hearts content, it痴 being done by bots. Which is why it's such a problem, if it was individual users we could just simply block their IPs. But because it's being done by bots IP blocking is useless. |
