Post subject: Help me put togeter a 386dx system for DOS gaming |

Missed that whole era so its a tad confusing, even with the info on the net available.
Looking at buying a 386DX-40 cpu and suitable mobo.
Trouble is, I notice two kinds of cpu's - ceramic with pins underneath (PGA), and plastic with pins that are soldered (QFP).
The AMD386DX40 is a QFP - does this mean it requires soldering to the mobo, or does it come on a little board that plugs into the mobo?
What else should I be aware of when making a purchase decision?
And what is this thing?:
