Post subject: On board soundcard impossible in true DOS? |
|
|
Hello,
If anyone can point me towards a way to run some kind of DOS drivers
for my "soundcard" (I have just the on-board card which came with my Compaq Presario 5360).
I have tried using generic Soundblaster drivers, but it says it cannot
find the soundcard.
It is called an Solo 1938 like the Compaq website talks about. It is an on-board soundcard. Is there a way to use the Windows 98 drivers directly in DOS, maybe?
I have set up a DOS 6.22 drive and boot directly to it using System
Commander. Everything works fine, but I cannot get the sound going.
Any help would be appreciated...

This maybe possible, here are the two versions of the ESS 1938 drivers I've located.
This driver is for Win95/98(First Edition).
This driver is for Win98-SE.
Both descriptions say they have DOS mode drivers but these Windows drivers have to be loaded first to get appropriate installation of the DOS mode driver. There's a Readme file.
Also check out their FAQ section on the DOS audio part |
