Does anyone know a way to significantly speed up VESA modes in old DOS games? I have tried various software like Univbe, but no luck. So, I'm guessing it will take hardware. So, is there a graphics card known to be the fastest at handling VESA modes? Thanks.

Just about any 1 MB PCI video card I guess. S3, Cirrus Logic, Trident, etc.

Nvidia chips do well. My riva128 based pci video card plays all the VESA modes in hardware.
