Cave Monsters Killing

Post by LGR1956 »

Looking for a Dos game that was about a single man who entered a cave on each level and fought a monster to collect it's goods and ends with him fighting a dragon. It was not really a multiplayer game and had nothing to do with collecting eggs or growing dragons. It was very simple with basic graphics, I think it started with a bow & arrow as his first weapon. I played it way back in the 80's (I'm old, 62). I wish that I could remember more about it.

I thank you in advance.

I thank you so very much. The game I want had only "caves" in a mountain side that I could enter through.

Some more technical details are needed I think; do you remember the viewpoint; 1st person, or side view 3rd person, or maybe top down?

Was the graphics simple wire-frame, or letter/character based, or more 2D filled polygon style? (I assume it's not a text adventure with still image graphics)

Do you recall if the game was launched from the DOS prompt or used a boot-disk?

Was it action real-time combat or old rpg turn-based?
Was there only a single character to play as, and no party?

We do have a guide to help us find your game:

The game was third person, side view, 2d and was launched from the dos prompt. I think the action was RPG turn-based, single player. Graphics were OK for the time and colorful. I plan on taking a good look at the link you suggest. I truly thank you. :)

Not many in this list, but check it anyway:

Something more in the style of Barbarian perhaps? (jumping on platforms)

Thanks but none of those were it. I'll look at any other suggestions. Also, the year I played it might have been in the early 90's.

Thanks.

Any other game you could name that looks similar to your unknown game?

Here are some "nots".
No dungeon, no flying, no trick escape, no egg collecting, no raising anything.
Simply one man going through the caves killing creatures who have items. It may seem boring but it will challenge my mind enough. Also, I remember playing a Santa game at the same time called "Elf Bowling" which was also free.

I sure pray that this might help. :D

Elf Bowling came out in Nov 1999 according to MobyGames, so that is a good reference in time. So it might even have been a game from early 2000?

The playing style of just walking through a cave to kill monsters for pickups seems more like plain action like the Barbarian game mentioned earlier, maybe not an rpg at all? Not so many DOS games released in late 90:s though, so it would be earlier.

Maybe something in here you could point at, as looking similar:

I looked it all over and no such luck. Sorry. My second ex-wife is a real poo. She has an excellent memory but refuses to help at all. My first ex has asked me out on a date. Yippee!

Thanks so much for your time.

The first one was "similar" but not the one. The others are not even close.

Thanks.

Thanks for all of the suggestions.
Here is what I can remember:
DOS based, single player, 3rd person side view, moving left to right, main character was more of a caveman look with a sword which could be replaced by a shotgun and maybe a "BFG", not sure. Cave was in the side of a mountain which had side paths inside of mountain to the left and/or to the right. Some small treasures could be found there but the "big" one was at the straight in end which was guarded be a creature with the biggest, baddest dragon protecting the main prize on the last level. I think you needed the BFG to take out the last dragon.

My thanks to all who have tried to help. I will now be watching this forum closer. :)
