DGF Rules and Regulations (Revision 7)

These are the rules for Dosgames Forum and should be used as a guideline for anyone posting here.
Rules and Regulations

First and most important rule:
"Here is a simple, rule-of-thumb guide for behavior: Ask yourself what you want people to do for you, then grab the initiative and do it for them."
In other words, always, in every circumstance, treat others with respect.

I. Post Rules and Regulations

1. General Post Rules

a- Posts may not contain racist, discriminatory, abusive, or hateful messages.
b- No cross posting.
c- No posts may be made asking for free copies for full-version games that have not been released as freeware. You may ask for sites where you may buy aforementioned games. Also, if someone DOES ask for a full-version or abandonware game, do not provide a link to download it.
d- Do not post links to sites containing warez and/or abandonware information, downloads, or links to such material.
The one exception to rule I.1.d is Home of the Underdogs ( www.the-underdogs.info ); linking to Home of the Underdogs is allowed.
e- Pointless posts, trolling, private advertisements or posts made for the purpose of artificially increasing your post count will not be tolerated.
f- Do not post in "Finding Old Games" or "Get Games to Work" unless you are looking for a game, trying to get a game fixed, or helping someone in need.
g- Single emoticon posts are not tolerated.
h- If you see a single emoticon post, please do not respond to it. That just makes the job of "cleaning up" twice as hard.
i- Excessive use of emoticons is not tolerated.
k- Excessive off-topic replies will be split and locked if necessary.
l- No posts may contain content of a pornographic (adult) nature or links to sites which provide such content.
m- Do not double (triple, etc) post. If you wish to add additional comments to a post you've made, please edit the post you've already made.

2. Rules Regarding Post Revival

a- Posts may be revived if you have the same problem as the post. (Regarding the help forums, generally)
b- Posts in any of the General forums may be revived if they lack any definite completion.
c- Even if incomplete, please don't revive topics over 2 weeks-1 month in Get Games to Work/Find Old Games excepting that you're following rule "a".
d- Posts may not be revived for post count.
e- Posts may not be revived for humor, unless the topic calls for it.
f- Any sticky or announcement topic is judged as an active topic.

II. Rules of Conduct

a- By No means and for no reason whatsoever may you use information pertaining to members here such as e-mail addresses, instant messages, Private Messages or personal websites to propagate unwanted commercial solicitation (spam). Doing so will result in an immediate and permanent banning. (And possibly a complaint to your ISP) There will be no warning.

If you feel that your product (or service, or website, etc) absolutely MUST be advertised to members here either post a website related to it in The Spam Thread in Off-Topic or elsewhere depending on which forum it is relative in and allow our moderators to deal with it.
b- Posting of opinions is educational and encouraged, but they may only be posted if they are valid and complete and are not personally derogatory to any person or group.
c- Flaming (any statement or comment that is personally offensive to a member and serves no apparent purpose but to cause hurt and degrade him or her) is not tolerated.

Datum: We *do* allow flaming to a certain extent, especially if the flamee in question is being a jackass, but don't abuse this rule too much or try and start flame wars. And, for the love of God, if you absolutely have to flame do it in a creative way!

d- Backseat moderation is discouraged by Moderators. If you don't hold a position of authority here, please don't pretend you do.
e- Arguing opinions is allowed as long as it does not exceed reasonable terms as decided by a Moderator or Administration member.
f- Because we believe in freedom of expression, these forums have no censors and you're free to say whatever you please. (So long as it abides by all the other rules here and isn't illegal) We'd ask that you not abuse this and don't use excessive profanity in your posts. Finally, and most importantly, if you constantly string your posts with obscenities, chances are most people aren't going to take you very seriously.
g- If you have a complaint about a staff member please *do not* make a post about it. Rather contact emmzee or Dogbreath via PM or e-mail and they'll take care of it.

III. Avatar and Signature Rules.

a- While we allow you the freedom to use avatars of any size, they must not stretch the screen at a resolution of 800x600. Unless you have a good reason-please keep avatars within 150x150 pixels. If you have a reason for having an avatar larger than that, please contact one of the administrators before adding it.
b- Avatars may not contain nudity, sexuality, racist, discriminatory comments; hate messages, flaming, or extreme violence.
c- Avatars may not contain extreme animation as to prevent seizures to visitors with epilepsy. (I.E. Red and Yellow flashing colors.) Regular animation is fine. Please use your best judgment to define extreme animation.

IV. Warning and Banning System

a. Violation of the above rules will initially be punished by a warning by a moderator. Continual abuse will result in loss of posting privileges. Posts containing racism, warez, or pornography will result in an instant permanent banning.

V. Enforcement Of These Rules

a. If you have a disagreement with any of these rules please contact an administrator.
b. Keep in mind that sabotaging or editing the content of these boards through illegal means (i.e., hacking) is not only in violation of these rules but is also in violation of international law. It's not a game and it's not funny-just illegal.
c. The people who enforce these rules are as follows:

Administrators
Dogbreath
emmzee
Jorrit
The_Sinister_Mastermind
Mr. Worm

They run the boards, add new forums, and control bans. If you have a problem with a moderator or other staff members please contact them.

Moderators
Wally*Wan_Kenobie
Moo
Wardrich
Dosraider
Larry Laffer

They moderate posting, control topic order, and settle user disputes.

Please respect all of the above and obey what they say. If you have a disagreement with a mod refer to section II.g.

The rules won't be strictly enforced and if you catch a mod in a good mood he may let you slide on one or several of the above rules. DO NOT however assume that if you get away with it once you always will or that if someone else is allowed to break a rule that you can as well. Our moderators aren't perfect and they may make mistakes enforcing the rules- but constantly criticizing them will only make their job harder and less friendly to you.

This post drafted by:
Dr. Worm (modified Administrator list)
emmzee (Revision 3, Revision 6 re post count)
Dogbreath (Co-drafted original, Revision 2, added material to revision 1, Revision 5, Revision 7)
Kazer0 (Drafted original, added to revision 2)
