Seeing all these great games, I have to be humble!

Post by tienkhoanguyen »

Well, today I have to be humble through it all. Thank you to Jesus Christ first of all for always saving me! My father taught me to be humble. I once thought I knew it all then one day I challenged my father to an arm wrestling. Sad, I know. Gratefully I was only a kid and never could win against him. I love him and am glad I never won against my own father.

I am happy Jesus Christ extended the same graces to me on my mother's side. She still treats me like a child. haha I am glad she still has the ultimate say in what I do. My mother is all I have left of my two real parents right now. So I am praying hard she lives to 100+ years old haha

So one of my favourite games of all time is Pac-Man. I remember my father would let me play on the Arcade all day and night long. I don't remember how far I got however I remember getting to the point where it super-sized! haha

Fun times as a kid.

Anyways, I am glad I am not as good of a developer as these PROs!!!!!!!!!!!!

Namco, thanks for Pac-Man. EA, thanks for Tetris. Ubisoft, thanks for Chessmaster 10th Edition. Etcetera.

Good Stuff; AI is an elusive little rascal... I look forward to checking these out.

If you're interested, I've found a link for VESA 2 on the way back machine. Many of the off-site links are dead, but most of the tutorial appears to be there. I haven't tried to compile it yet, but the source for extended modes in asm / C still seems to work.

Looks like that page was last updated in 1997. :P

Another Humiliating Day

Post by tienkhoanguyen »

Well, I keep thinking about these amazing games with all the graphics and cool musics. I am humiliated again! I think my so called dual display full of flickering animation is something special when they have 3D.

I guess I have to be grateful to God that somehow I keep enough income to pay for my house, food, and stuffs.

You would think after 41 years of studying I have the knowledge to have a family of my own by now. hehe Well, I'm sorry to disappoint you all. However, I messed around too much in my life and is punished by God. If I worked hard from the beginning and never messed around with chicks and all, I would have a house, wife, and all by now (I am assuming).

I guess Romeo and Juliette is a story dedicated to other couples. I have my own story and we will only know when my life has passed. Whether I live to 100 years old and have the life I want is yet to be seen.

@pseudocoder: Well, I previewed the stuffs and they all seem too standard and cliche. I am in search of my very own unique flavor. You know movies are all too cliche. Love, romance, war, and so on. It is all done before it seems. Being a brand new developer, I am in search of my very own niche. You know Mr. Sir Bill Gates has his followers! hehe I mean even I have a copy of MS-DOS 6.22. I even have Microsoft Windows XP Home with Service Pack 2.

What is earth shattering? hehe Well, hopefully nothing hehe We all want to be alive so as long as the earth is stable that is a good thing! hehe

I believe in God, but I cannot prove God exists which I have stated in another thread.

Geez, my point is that I want to be unique. If I have $10 then I want my wife to love me anyways. Even if I have nothing to offer, my wife would still love me, and I do the same for her. Once again, that is the classic story of "TRUE LOVE".

Another point I am trying to make is even though I might not be Mr. Bill Gates, I have my own TRUE friends AND TRUE families!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, we could brainstorm some ideas here if you want. I guess coming up with an entirely new game concept would be rather challenging, but there are very certainly things out there no one has really tried out before (or has tried, but the general public doesn't know about this).

You already have an advantage of being a native DOS developer. Thanks to the recent developments in emulation (and particularly, the spread of DOSBox), the popularity of DOS as a gaming platform seems to be on the rise. However, many developers still think of it as an outdated platform and focus their efforts elsewhere.

For example, I think your Tic-Tac-Toe game has great potential. It's actually the first game of this kind to be featured at DOS Games Archive. It has a great replay value, is challenging enough, and good for casual players as well, because each playing session is rather short (so it can function as a "coffee break" kind of game).

Stunning graphics are cool and all, but a game should be fun to play in the first place. A game that is challenging and has a good replay value is, in my opinion, more preferable than a game with advanced graphics yet linear, predictable gameplay.

I think that to have some starting point, you could sum up features in other games which you think are fun, and check if they can be combined into a single game which you could code. When you have core game mechanics, you can then sketch out possible enhancements, work on improved graphics etc. Who knows what game concepts can be created that way.

At least, this seems like a reasonable way to start to me.

You are pulling my leg! I am not that good. hehe

Thank you for the kindness. All through our interactions you have been quite kind. Thank you for that.

My father and mother are mean however they are good people! I love my real parents for that. We might not be rich however we have each other. God has bless us with family values and enough to get by.

It is embarrassing to be on welfare however we have a stable family-unit and that is more important than riches.

I will never be able to pay off this house loan even when I die, but I am grateful God gave us a place we enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Jesus for all we have until we die#!!

I agree with MrFlibble, and second his recommendations. :)

And on creating a niche or a new type of game, I love the story of Steve Fawkner, who created Warlords back in the C64/ZX Spectrum days, and Puzzle Quest more recently, both genera blending unique and addictive games that turned into successful series. His path and process and successes and failures just seem very real, accessible, and repeatable.

Well, although I am able to do "miracles" with DEMOs, I am not a gamer.

I have to be humble to Jesus for my talents.

Even though I can do DEMOs, full version of games such like DOOM I can't.

DOOM is a classic game and I respect the authors for their work.

Thank God Jesus I am talented in my own specialized fields of work.

Thank God for my little DEMOs that are useful to the public!!!!!!!!!!!!

Remember I am on welfare so I depend on people's tax contribution.

I remember my own father well. He taught me one of the most important principles. His last words to me were "Jesus!"

My mother also says pray to Jesus and it shall be!

So for this final day of my 1 year anniversary on WWW.DOSGAMES.COM, I owe both my parents#!!

They sufferred so that us kids can now have the comfortable good life that comes from hard work.

It is my turn to do the same for other kids.

I hope in my own words to continue producing programs that are needed and wanted for the rest of forever if possible.!

So I have about an hour left before September 5, 2015 midnight.

Before my anniversary, I want to say "NO GUARANTEES".

If I promised you something, then don't hold your breath just in case hehe

If I promised you many more INTROs to come, :cuccoan:

In other words, run far away from me and laugh hehe

For instance I keep saying "One last word!"

Well,

Legend has it that there are those who opposes God himself and his people?

They go so far as to attack not only Jesus but also God?

Remember this warning, God created even the devil himself.

If you read the entire book of Job, the devil has to ask for permission from God

So if you think you could win against God by going to Satan, go try it!

You might end up a horrible mess in eternal sufferring while I live in Heaven.

Enjoy the lesson of being humble to God!
