sorry all you heavy rockers out there - but pink floyd is the best. the best. the best. get their "dark side of the moon" and "wish you were here" albums, and listen to them.
i was once a thrasher. but now i'm a dreamy stoner. |

| i just love the way they slow it all down - it's like they're just jamming, but it's all real and practised. completely opposite to bands like Norther, In Flames, Linkin f*****g park and several others i daren't mention. it REALLY is good, realxing, wholesome music. |

<singing> so, so you think you can tell, heaven from hell, Blue skies from pain. Can you tell a green field from a cold, steel rain. A smile from a veil. Do you think you can tell. Did they get you to traid You hero's for ghosts, hot ashes for trees...</singing> --From Wish You Were Here
i have over 500mb of Pink Floyd songs. (All copied off my dad's records)

| Pink Floyd rocks, but I wouldn't go as far to say they're the best. |

yep, i have a load of albums too wardrich, and guess what? i got them from my dad's records too! by the way, if you listen to the first part of "shine on you crazy diamond" on the wish you were here album, right at the start, you can hear what sounds like the monkey island theme tune. about 2-3 minutes in, i believe.
and dopefish, that's cool, i'm just expressing my opinion. i'm glad you like them. |

But, yeah, Pink Floyd rocks. My favorite songs are Money, Time, and Another Brick in the Wall. |

So it appears that some of you youngin's are familiar with vinyl, nice
Now how about asking your fathers if any of them have all the Half-Speed masters on vinyl as well This is the sign of a true fan of Floyd or for any other band/artist for that matter
Also if you really want to get into Floyd, take a psychadelic trip down a few older albums like:
A Saucerful of Secrets
Umma Gumma
Obscoured By Clouds
Meddle
Atom, Heart Mother etc...
Pay close attention to tracks like Echoes, Careful With That Axe Eugene, See Emily Play, St. Tropez, Set The Controls For the Heart of the Sun and of course, Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving With a Pick |

ok, you got it jimmijo! but i don't think that anything can beat that song in the wall - how does it go?
"how can you have your pudding if you don't eat your meat? how can you have your pudding if you don't eat your meat? how can you..." |

Yes, good stuff The Wall is
The first time I heard that track I thought the voice was saying something like:
"Beat your meat"

Just curious, but what's your vinyl copy set up: hardware (sterio system and computer), wiring, software... ? Are you mixing to WAV or going straight to mp3? Sample rates? Final resulting quality? Pop and scratch supression? Clipping points?
I'm always interested in other's archieving systems for old tech.
But note there IS a possibility vinyl will out last all electronic media, properly stored. For exampleI have several 100 year-old 78 rpm albums. |

Oz and everyone:
I've made a topic on this item here in the Music forum so as not to side-track the Floyd fans. We should move the recording tips banter to this location.

Now back to the Floyd discussion!
Truth to tell I'm a bit more partial to Jethro Tull. But there are simularities. |
