Hullo all,
I have vague memories of this game from the 'mid 90s. You choose from one of several alien races (or humans, of course), and start out at a starbase, where you buy/modify a ship, crew, weapons, etc. From there, you fly to planets in order to strip them of resources.
On the planets (which I recall being the main part of the game, though I may be mistaken), you controlled your crew from a top-down view and could command each of them invidividually, spreading them over the map. There were usually enemies hanging around who you had to dispatch before you could start collecting resources. I believe there was some sort of system for claiming/colonizing the planets once you cleared everything off them, but I could be misremembering.
For the longest time, I remembered this game being called Starship Commander, but I can't seem to find info on anything by that title over the interweb. From glancing over some of the other posts here, it sounds a *lot* like Starflight (which I've not played), but it's definitely from a lot more recent than the 80s; probably around '93-'95, I remember there being a then-snazzy intro movie with voice acting from a narrator. |
