Hello all,
Been a while since I posted here. Damned life got in the way of my fun old-timey games.
Anyway, I'm going backpacking for 5 months with an Asus EEE PC - basically a tiny cheap laptop that is designed mainly for using the internet. However, it is also simple to install DOSbox, so I figure I'll spend some of my time replaying the classics.
What sorts of things should I load it with? I've already dumped a lot of my old favourites on there: Keen, Doom, Duke Nukem (and 3D), what else should I be playing as I travel through Europe? |

Darklands is a great RPG, takes a long time to win. Plenty challenging
Dragon lore is fairly nice with the graphic and interesting voices. It's more like a game like kings quest. Which brings me to the next cool dos game.
Kings quest 5+, Goblin quest 2+. They usualy need hint guides but fun! You pretty much walk around picking up items which you need to figure out where they're used.
Lemmings is pretty good stratigy. Leading those green dudes to the goal
I agree with Sveddi Dune 2 is a super fun stratigy game. i played it for over a year
I'm unsure if caesor 2 was dos, pretty sure it was. Another great stratigy.
In the future if you want to know the best DOS games, be more specific of what type of game play you like. Doom, and duke nukem are shooters, so maybe you like shooters but want to try something else? We can only guess |

Are you playing on the plane? If that's the case, then you may want to avoid games that require mouse (unless you don't mind playing with Touchpad, although Touchpad is still fine for turn-based games). Games that Page Up, Page Down, Home, and End could pose some problems as well, since Eee PC requires Fn key to access those keys.
The things above would unfortunately limit the selection of your games during travel. Fortunately, most DOS games can be played well despite the limitations of laptop/netbook keyboards and/or the lack of mouse. Of course you cannot play Gunship 2000 during flight, but games like Bad Blood, Red Storm Rising, Dragon Wars, Sword of the Samurai, and Panzer General are still fine. Generally, stick to turn-based games or strategy/RPG.
If you're playing in hotel room, then you can use joystick and mouse. However, flightsims are still hampered by laptop keyboard limitations. I would suggest Microprose's F-117A, then, since its keyboard control is pretty much "laptop-friendly".
(and yup, I also play DOS games on the plane) |

You got XP on you EEE?
EDIT:I think there is an emulator which you can install on the Linux version of EEE,cant quite remember which one(i think SCUMMVM),I installed it via Synaptic, cant right quite tell ya which sources i had,I'll have to look up.
But you have some nice adventures with the emulator, and works with sound perfectly.
EDIT2:
Okay i ofund this sofar,it is SCUMMVM and you got only 2 games availalable if you have Linux(Debian Xandros) version of EEE.
| Code: | The game data of two games compatible with ScummVM is included in Debian. These are:
- Beneath a Steel Sky (package name: beneath-a-steel-sky) - Flight of the Amazon Queen (package name: flight-of-the-amazon-queen)
To actually make use of ScummVM, you'll have to install one of these... |
I have played BASS a bit and found it very nice. |

Er, I don't have Eee. My XP-installed netbook is MSI Wind. But Dosser said he uses Eee in the OP, and from what I seen from Eee keyboard layout, it's not quite "gaming-friendly" for certain types of games. For example, Novalogic's Delta Force series use Home and End key to change stance (prone, stand, etc), while such keys can only be accessed using Fn key on Eee keyboard.
Come to think of it, MSI Wind also suffers from the same problem. |

I have the game on my MS DOS, would be great if the sound wasn't jacked up and I didn't have to restart my computer to get off the game. I'm currently asking for help in another forum, might post my concerns about it in a few days if it doesn't get resolved.
On topic, I can't really say I have a game I consider best yet, since I have just barely gotten into MS DOS games. |

Dune 1 was apsolutely awesome at the type, was such a mystical game for me, and Discworld was cool The day of the tentacle, not sure if many of you played some of these ... And just the blues brothers came into my mind, those were really awesome games! |

Screw my first post here, I now managed to get SimCity 2000 working well, it's just that I didn't know how to program DOSBOX, but now I do and it's running perfectly.
But my current favorite game would be Jetpack. |
