That's almost as old-school as the non-DOS version of Starcraft! |

Yeah, at one point. More popular than DGA, certainly, probably more popular than dosgames.com.
Boson (the admin there) didn't really maintain the site well, and after he sold it about a year back, the new owner threw up a bunch of banner ads and popups, and let the site go to rot.
Back around 2001-2004, though, it had a thriving community and got nicknamed DGF's "sister forum" due to the fact that a lot of DGFers were on GH, and vice versa. This started because the immensely popular Da_Goat was a moderator on both this forum and GH. We used to play Soldat together, and I still have a lot of GH peeps on my MSN list.
In the last couple years, though, their forum lost most of it's administration and got filled full of spam and crap. It'd make me cringe every time I went there to post. Hopefully the new Gamehippo will be better.
Mr. Worm, if you and other Gamehippo members want, I can start a Gamehippo Remembrance forum here. They're all welcome to start posting here until a new site goes up. |

If you need hosting, I can prolly host the site for you. Unless it gets really super popular and has tons of traffic. Then you might have to get your own server But certainly for now I should be able to host it. |

Thanks for offering you guys, but the new Gamehippo is under development on my webspace. I'm working on the coding and getting a new domain name (since misterworm.net expires next month).
But the template looks pretty cool: http://misterworm.net/coding/ |

Hi,
I am the previous owner of Gamehippo.com. Here is the story. I decided that I wanted to spend more time with my family so I sold Gamehippo. About a year later, the new owner forgot to review the domain registration. I don't really know what his plan is now.
I still think I have most of the games stored in my old archive.

Can't he just contact customer support on the host? I mean, surely they'll let him have the domain back if he pays to renew it... The "site" that's currently parked there is doing nothing more than ruining the host's rep...
Imagine the internet like 20 years from now? Every site is going to be trashed like that one... I also think there are some laws (in the US, possibly Canada) to prevent squatting like that... I'm not sure how much of the world has taken up the law, or even what areas it applies to... but I hope it helps get trash sites like this off the net. |

Are you serious?!
The transition site was also bought...http://misterworm.net is also parked, with a similar "What you want, when you need it" page. The forum looks exactly like it.
The website is now at http://gamehipporedux.com/ for those who are curious. I have a professional PHP programmer working on it, and I hope to have a grand opening at the beginning of the year. |
