What "thing" are you doing?
It'll help a lot if you post the following:
Operating System (This means brand (dos/windows/linux/macintosh) and version (6.2/98SE/XP/Vista))
Game Version (there's full and demo, and several different releases)
Where you got the game (from this site, CD, warez (don't link please!), etc.)
The exact steps you take to get it to work.
By exact steps, I mean exact steps, with description of the commands typed or icons clicked. "I tried to run it" doesn't really tell us much.
And, whatever error messages you got, preferably screenshotted or copy/pasted.
I can tell you right away, your problem may be you running the dos version of the game on XP or Vista without emulation, but I'll wait for your reply.
It might take a minute or two to compile a response, but it'll go a long way towards helping us help you. |

Alright, go back to your Warcraft folder in dosbox and run setup. (make sure you run setup inside dosbox)
Select Soundblaster 16/AWE for sound effects, Soundblaster II/SB16 for music. (for some reason, Warcraft setup doesn't accept the standard soundblaster)
set both as follows:
Address 220
IRQ 7
DMA 1
Save and exit.
Run Warcraft.
If it doesn't work, either your copy of Warcraft, your computer, or your dosbox config is b0rked. (The WCR1 instead of the standard WARCRAFT has me suspicious)
Download Warcraft 1 again, install, and try again. If that doesn't work, consider reinstalling dosbox. (maybe you have an older version?)
If none of that works... your computer is screwed. Sorry.
FWIW, I'm running Windows XP, using dosbox 0.72, and Warcraft runs fine. I have some somewhat deviated settings to accommodate my screwy graphics card (ATI Radeon Xpress), but nothing I can think of that'd be substantially different. |
