Haven't tried Falcon 3.0 in dosbox 0.72 yet, will give it a go later this weekend or next week, was on my 'to do one day' program anyway.
But I have the original floppies, so it will about that.
Hopefully your 'downloaded' Falcon isn't screwed up.......

And your step by step, this is where it begins:

Get dosbox working right first, I won't repeat this here.

Hmmmm, must have the later version on CD also somewhere.

[Edit]
Or are you refering to the demo you can download@
http://www.dosgamesarchive.com/list/#F ?

[Editē]
Tried the demo, runs swell in dosbox 0.72.
Simply unzip the archive to \falcon\ , run with falon3, better choose adlib when asked, as there is no soundsetup in the demo, soundblaster plays as PC speaker.

BTW, the demo is only a shadow of what the full game is. Gives an idea, nothing more.
The full game is a good flight sim.
