Stonekeep [Howto]

Post by dosraider »

First of all, set up dosbox for your system:
Read and apply first:
If on XP: http://www.dosgames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5443
If on Vista: http://www.dosgames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10437
If on Windows 7: http://www.dosgames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13511

Stonekeep howto
For good understanding: This is about the full game, not some faulty or incomplete rip.
Dosbox 0.72 is freshly installed, nothing altered in the config file.
The x is your real CDdrive letter in windows.

Installing Stonekeep:
Put your CD in the drive.
Run dosbox.
Input:

mount d x:\ -t cdrom
d:
install

You will get a menu.
Choose FULL install.?
Accept C drive
Alter c:\intrplay\stonkeep to c:\stonkeep ( NOT stonekeep !!!!!)
Create ? yes , of course.
Install stonekeep? yes, of course.
Takes some time here, will be a verification routine, simply be patient and let the program finish his work.

Next menu will be a soundsetup menu.
Do NOT use autodetect sound, or it will choose gravis, and that will slow the game down.
Digital:
Select SOUNDBLASTER 16/AWE32, port 220, IRQ 7, DMA 1
IRQ 7 !! The game is originally set to 5, alter to 7 .
Music:
Select SOUNDBLASTER Pro/16 PAS16(OPL3)
Exit and save.
Dosbox will be in c:\stonkeep, input SK to play.

Next time you want to play:
Put your CD in the drive.
Run dosbox.
Input:

mount d x:\ -t cdrom
c:
cd stonkeep
sk

Hit alt+enter to go fullscreen.
If your game is jerky, rerun install and choose no music card.

If you want you can create an ISO from your CD and use that to install/play the game.
I used WINISO and stored the ISO as c:\games\stnkp.iso
The mount line is then:
imgmount d c:\games\stknp.iso -t iso
Works fine for the game install and playing.

*Edit
Is tested in dosbox 0.72 but should also apply to any version higher than 0.72

The Hotu version: it's a rip but fully functional.
You can get it there:
http://www.the-underdogs.info/game.php?id=2527

Unzip the file in \oldgames\temporary_folder(do NOT use STKP as foldername, use \oldgames\TMPSTONE or so), you will get a whole list of ARJ compressed files in the folder with some other *.exes.
Best thing is to use dosbox to decompress the files.(It's the DOS_ARJ version)

Run dosbox, virtual C ( \oldgames\ ) should be mounted,

cd tmpstone
TDUJAM

input C as drive where the decompressed files must be stored.
It will create a STKP folder.

CD to the STKP folder, run
setup
Digital:
Select SOUNDBLASTER 16/AWE32, port 220, IRQ 7, DMA 1
IRQ 7 !! The game is originally set to 5, alter to 7 .
test it, should work.
For music card choose SBPro/16,PAS16 (OPL3) ( no autodetect there)
Save settings on exit.
To run the game input SK

Next time you want to play:
Run dosbox.
Input:

cd stkp
sk

[EDIT]
Dosbox version : 0.72, should work in later versions too (when released).

[Edit²]
Runs fine in dosbox 0.74
