The first Star Control was a classic, but quite different than the sequel.
Needless to say, SC2 became not only a classic, but a cult game.
In my books, it has ten of 10.

Graphics: The graphics are brilliant, even as they are drawn comically.
As brilliant as they are, though, they are not the best of the game. 9/10.

Sound: VERY fitting music theme with each race. By listening the music you can feel the inner being of each race. It is not 'real' music though, since it just repeats itself over and over. Sound effects aren't much except in SuperMelee, which were quite great. 10/10

Story: Ungeneric enough for a space opera. Start seems boring, but as you unravel it, it gets more interesting. Interesting stroyline with most of the races, even the main enemies aren't just plain black. 10/10

Playability: Very simple. Just move your ship where ever you want to go!
Not even mentioning the SuperMelee. That is best space fighting ever, with
interestingly different ships. 9/10

Overall, 10/10. Best space opera for ever. And the best of all, it's now free, as there's now a fan made version of it!
