Quest for Glory 4-Crashing at character selection screen

I downloaded and installed qfg4 and changed the compatibility settings to windows 95 and 256 colors. Now instead of saying "This game does not support your video card" or something like that it loads but crashes as soon as I click on a character type(Fighter, Mage or Thief) Any suggestions or help is very appreciated as I am now at a loss what to do.

BTW, I cant even install the game in DOS when I enter setup.exe it says this program must be run in windows. Therefore I cant even use DOSBox to run it. But it seems the sound is all fine so far...

There should be a dos-installer too. Even if you can't use that one, the game is still dos, so you should be able to run the program in dosbox after you've used the windows installer.
